Is the last row of a plane noisy to sit in? How do I keep my ears from popping (that hurts!)?

The last row IS the noisiest.. The jet blast is the highest there. And if your in a 727 or DC-9 type aircraft you are sitting VERY close to the engines.

For the folks that don't think this is true... I suggest you try sitting in first class once in awhile... You don't even hear the engines up there...

AS stated above, chewing anything will help your ears as you climb out or descend. Or just hold your nose and blow to clear your ears.

If you think flying hurts you don't want to try skydiving.. Loosing 15,000 feet in a little over 1 min. does horrible things to your ears if you don't equalize them on the way down.

Every airplane is different. Check seatguru.com to lookup a specific airlines and the seat/row you are going to be sitting in. To keep your ears from popping, you should chew gum during takeoff and landing.

Chew gum, that will help your ears adjust to pressure change. If that doesn't work, start shouting out bible verses. People will beat the crap out of you and you won't notice the ear problem.

Suck on a sweet, it really does work

Bad Kitty!
The last row isn't any noisier than the rest of the plane. Sometimes chewing gum can help equalize the pressure in your middle ear so that it doesn't pop or hurt.

not any nosier than anywhere else really, to stop you ears popping chew gum or suck on a hard boiled sweet, if they still start to pop hold your nose and blow that relieves it,
