Is there a way to file a formal complaint about DELTA Airlines unfair pricing practices?

Delta's site is set up so when you purchase a ticket for a minor travelling alone you can go through the whole process, buy the ticket and get to the airport without knowing that they are going to charge you either $100 or $150 extra for that minor. The site never asks the age of the traveler and whether tie travwler if und 15 is traveling alone. I purchased a ticket for $217 on the site for my daugher to travel to LAX from SLC only to get hit by DELTA for a $100 surcharge because she was traveling alone. My daugher is 14 and will be 15 in February and has been traveling alons since she was 9 and we have neverr been charged this surcharge or any other surcharge. Also I know for a fact that Southwest does not charge a surcharge and if I would have know at the time I procurred the tickets I would have bought tickets on Southwest.
So I think this is unfair to the consumer and the surcharge price is totally unjustified.
Additional Details
Note I bought the tickets on there WEBSITE. It is not obvious.

I worked for Sky West and I never heard of that. However this is the reality. You can complain, but if there is no blood, nobody lost a limb, Your complaint will most likely end up in the circular file.

Well, if you had bothered to actually look at their website, you might have found this: http://www.delta.com/planning_reservations/special_travel_needs/services_for_children/children_traveling_alone/index.jsp

It's all spelled out, and shouldn't have been a surprise. everything you claim they didn't tell you about, is on their website IF YOU'D ONLY LOOK.

Don't blame Delta because you can't be bothered to do a proper job booking.

That surcharge that almost all airlines charge, is so your child is properly escorted to the right adult waiting at the other end of the flight.

Seems a small enough price to pay for that security.

You obviously have it out for Delta, you've posted this same "question" for days under different usernames. It is clearly stated on their website, just as American clearly states they charge $75 each way and United clearly states they charge $99 each way for an unaccompanied minor. Looks like Delta is a good deal, especially when it comes to your daughter's safety. Thanks for the tip.

It is listed on their web site, under ticketing information. You could try to file a complaint with the BBB but all Delta has to do is show them their web site information and the case will be dismissed. It doesn't really matter what the other airlines policy is concerning minors traveling alone, each carrier is allowed to have their own policy regarding this.

The surcharge is to pay for the additional staff that is required to escort the minor. If you're so jazzed on Southwest, you probably didn't see all the stories about how they've let unaccompanied minors "slip through the cracks" on more than one occasion--- one 9-year-old met his mom at the baggage claim and the Southwest people didn't even know he'd gotten off the plane. So you get what you pay for... Delta is perfectly within their rights to charge extra for the service. And it's not Delta's fault if you don't read the fine print before you put in your credit card number. Every airline website will show you your total fare and fees before you agree to the purchase. It is the CONSUMER'S job to read what they are agreeing to!

Like others said, this is NOT a Delta issue. I know you're really torqued up about this, but Delta is more likely to sue you for libel for all of the trash-talking you have publicly directed toward them (this has to be close to the 10th post I've seen from you slandering Delta) than for you to have any legal recourse on Delta.

When you book online with Delta, it states "Your ticket purchase is subject to important terms and conditions" with a link - follow that link and you'll find their contract of carriage. Here it is: http://images.delta.com.edgesuite.net/delta/pdfs/contract_of_carriage_dom.pdf
Search the PDF for "minor" and you'll find it right there.

Southwest is a rare exception by not charging an unaccompanied minor fee. American, United, Northwest, Delta, US Airways, and Spirit definitely do. I'm actually not sure if anybody other than Southwest doesn't charge that fee.

I realize your frustration, but I'd recommend that you cool it with pegging this on Delta. The same thing would have happened on any other airline except for Southwest. You may choose to never do business again with Delta, but slandering them for following an industry-accepted practice will get you in more trouble than them.

On the bright side, your daughter only has another month of mandatory unaccompanied minor services on just about any airline. Even after that, I'd recommend searching airline websites or terms and conditions for "minor" before booking that ticket. EVERY airline MUST have a policy in place on the subject.

Every airline has a surcharge on unacompanied minors. It clearly states the surcharge at the end. Of course, Southwest doesn't charge one, they are actually a customer likeable airline.
