Is there a way to get free airline tickets?

If you happen to work for the airlines, you should get free travel privileges. Otherwise you'll have to earn free tickets by enrolling in a frequent flyer program and then travel on that airline for a while... or you can sign up for a credit card that offers travel rewards for using the card for everyday purchases or paying bills. Citibank has a good program and so does American Express.

Even better! Fly all over the world, not just for free - but getting paid for it. Become a member of cabin crew!

christina.yost
um, probably not free... but i HAVE heard that you can get really cheap tickets if you "accompany" parcel packages. also, you USED to be able to just show up and get a discounted ticket if someone didn't show up for their flight, or if there were seats left. only problem with that is it's not guaranteed a flight, and with the heightened security, not sure if they do this anymore.

grammyammy
If you find a way legally. Let me know.

Enter lots of competitions. In the last five years my wife and I have travelled from Australia to the UK (x2), Fiji, New Zealand and Singapore on prizes one or other of us have won.

I don't recommend the "risky" trick of buying a ticket on the day before thanksgiving. 2006, you would have been screwed because the flight loads were relatively light.

However, if you work for an airline, you can fly for free! Also, if you are a sigifigant other of an airline employee, or if your buddy works for one, then you can get buddy passes and fly for free, or dirt cheap!

This is not totally free, but I think it's an easy way to get a free ticket. Just sign up for an Amex Gold Business card, then make a purchase and your finished! You get 25,000 points which is good for one domestic round trip ticket. More details here:

This is extremely risky, but there is a way you can get a free flight. I only recommend this only if you are trying to take an actual trip, but are very flexible, and you have some money to begin with. Purchase a refundable ticket for a really busy travel time like Thanksgiving and Christmas. For Thanksgiving, the busiest time to travel will most likely be Tuesday and Wednesday night with everyone just getting off work for vacation and to visit family. Choose a prime time like 5-7pm.
Airlines typically overbook their flights especially during peak travel times, and they will request that several people be willing to give up their seats for an incentive. Be the volunteer and be sure that they give you a voucher for a future flight, not just meal credits. You can negotiate what they give you. If you really are traveling for this trip, then they'll try to rebook you for the next flight to your destination. If you are not really traveling and are taking the big risk, but get lucky enough that you receive the voucher, then you can check yourself back out of the flight, and cancel the flight for your full refund - you have until midnight with most airlines to cancel the flight, no matter what time the plane took off. This also works if you show up and the plan fails. You can cancel last minute and get your refund back.
If the flight is full for the return trip (saying you really did travel, but booked yourself for the busy days), you can get them to get you a hotel for the night and meal credit if they can't find a flight for you until the next day. On top of the hotel, they should also give you a voucher to use toward a future flight.
I know many people will be disgusted by this, and I personally wouldn't try it unless I really were traveling and was flexible enough to delay my arrivals. I know a couple college professors that do it this way so they can get a few extra days of vacation paid for in the city of departure, and the free future flights.
