There is.
There are basically 2 types of fares; "published" and "unpublished."
Published fares are fares that airlines, em, publish and are available for sale via Travelocity, Orbitz, Kayak, your local travel agency, direct from the airline's call center or booking website, etc. These include any "sale" or reduced fare specials that the airline might have. To find these, the best source is http://www.farecompare.com -- and choose their "research cheapest airfares" search.
Be aware that not all airlines participate with outside booking sources. Some low-cost airlines are notorious for this, so have to be checked individually. Without knowing where in Australia, and where you're starting from, that's all I can offer about that.
The other type of airfares, aka "unpublished" fares, are sold by airfare "consolidators" sometimes called "bucket shops." Consolidators are often cheaper on international routes, because they have negotiated certain fare class(es) at a higher commission, and pass on the savings to the customer. This helps airlines fill seats that would otherwise go empty.
Without knowing your specifics, a good, thorough search of published and unpublished fares can be done with http://www.bookingbuddy.com which adjusts the search to fit the cities you type in. It saves you loads of time finding the best sources, and saves you having to retype your cities and dates over and over. |

www.kayak.com is a good site for cheap fares because it poles a lot of sites. Yet, there is a site that will fare watch for you, but I can't remember it. I did find it in last months issue of travel and leisure if that helps. Perhaps you can search their site. Good luck. |

There is not one, single site that will give you the cheapest flight. You have to search several of them. Try Orbitz, Expedia, Cheapseats, Travelocity, etc... |
