Is there any way I can smoke on a flight to the USA?

Otherwise I won't be able to attend my brother's graduation.
Additional Details
And...what can they realistically do if I light up onboard?

No, you cannot smoke on a flight to the U.S. Days where planes had smoking sections are long passed. Realistically, what they can do if you light up in flight is have you met by friendly police officers in the U.S. and you will have a friendly police escort off the plane. Now, combine that with the fines you will also receive..it isn't quite worth it. You can take the "advice" to light up in the lav and blow the smoke down the drain...but I assure you those smoke detectors are more sensitive than the average detectors..and it will be smelled by someone. I worked yrs and yrs in the industry..I have seen one stupid trick after the other.

No smoking at all. But, you can smoke in some airports, so if you have any stops/layovers you can typically go to the smoking area of the airport.

That is a horrible reason to miss your brother's graduation. C'mon now.

I was a smoker for 15 years and I UNDERSTAND the urge to smoke...sure...but it is your brother!

Just get some sleeping pills and sleep the whole flight.

Or get nicotine gum or patches. That might help.

If there is a will, there is a way. You don't sound like you have will to get to your bros. graduation.

Jessi
Sure, but sitting on the wing of the plane is not such a good idea.

Smoking is banned on all flights.

Mike V
Not even by a long shot. It is a Federal crime to smoke aboard a flight originating or bound for the United States along with many other countries. If you are caught, and you probably will get caught because airplanes are not very big and there are a lot of people around, you will be reported to the Police back state-side and you may get arrested and will probably be issued a fine. Check out the TSA or FAA for more, but personally, that would do it for me.

No you absolutely can NOT smoke on an aircraft, you should try things like the nicotine patch or gum, or try and sleep the whole time, my friends mom is a smoker and when she goes on an aircraft she doesnt get the feeling that she needs a cigarette, give it a go you dont want to miss your brothers graduation, Good Luck!!!

you can be placed in jail and fined a huge amount of money because you are putting the other passengers at risk. why not just get the patch... you'll still get your fix.

drip
Not only will you be arrested and fined you will not be allowed to fly on that airline again.

I guess you'll have to miss your brother's graduation then

Jenn
Unfortunately smoking on domestic US flights are illegal. Laws can vary from airline to airline and whether or not it is an international flight which it looks like you will be on.

Check the airline website for FAQ or see the link below. Perhaps you can get a nictoine patch to tide you over so you can be there for your brother on such an important day for him?

You cannot smoke on non-smoking flights.

What they can realistically do if you light up on board is have you arrested on arrival. You can then be jailed, tried, convicted, and sent to Federal prison for a maximum of 20 years.

lildude211us
NO, you may not smoke on any part of the plane. Its against federal law. If you do the pilot can land at the nearest airport, notify them to call the police, kick you off and you get arrested. You might also get heckled at or an "evil eye" from other passengers cuz you caused the delay.

suck it up and hold it out till you get off the plane or dont go to your brother's graduation.

iansand9876
No. Use nicotine patches, or take the opportunity to begin quitting.

I don't think there is smoking on board anywhere.
if they catch you smoking they'll ask you to put it out. there might be some fine, but i am not sure.

Phantomcrash
Dude, spam nicotine patches until you get there, good luck!

gromit801
No, you cannot smoke.

If you light up on board, you WILL be arrested by the cops when you land. If you think you can sneak into the bathroom to do it, there are smoke detectors in there to let the crew know. If you disable the detector, they get an audible warning about that as well.

If you place your smoking over your brother's big event, you're some kind of low life. Get some nicotine patches.

Meg
Nope not at all, it's prohibited on every flight.

there is no way you can smoke on a flight.
they don't wanna risk the plane blowing up or catching fire.

Michael R
You can smoke in the bathroom, but not an entire cigarette. Bend down by the drain to the sink and open it so that it will suck the smoke down the drain. the smoke detector is not any different than the one in your house, so a bit of smoke will not cause it to go off. If you get caught, I believe that the penalty will be a fine of somewhere between $1k-$2500. You can also try a type of chewing tobacco, where it comes in little pouches.

Anthony
well... there are a lot of flights where u can smoke!! duh!
