It's gonna be my first time on a plane and i was just wondering.........? |
So i'm going on a trip next week and it'll be my first time on a plane. I have to transfer flights at a couple different airports before i reach my destination (i'm going literally from one side of the country to the other ... ambitious for my first flight huh :P) and i just had a couple questions. Do they automatically put ur luggage on to the next plane u'll be on or do u have to go get it and do it urself? Also i was wondering, are u allowed to leave the airport, like just go out for air not actually go off somewhere, while ur waiting for ur next flight to bord. Is there anything u can't take on the flight, besides the obvious. And one last thing, how confusing/crazy are airports and is there anything i should be warned (lol) about.
Thanks a bunch!! ^_^ |

Do they automatically put ur luggage on to the next plane u'll be on or do u have to go get it and do it urself?
- if you're flying with 2 different airlines, probably no. if yes, arrange it with the ground staffs. I think they automatically transfer it. Ask to be sure.
are u allowed to leave the airport, like just go out for air not actually go off somewhere, while ur waiting for ur next flight to bord.
- yes. unless otherwise a transit visa is required. but if you're just within the country, then no. Just make sure you have time to return or you'll miss your flight.
Is there anything u can't take on the flight, besides the obvious?
- some airports do not allow bringing in liquids, water included. but some allow it - with restrictions.
- No metals. No knives (sharp objects) (even a pocket knife is not allowed)
- no alcoholic drinks (as far as i know, this is prohibited)
how confusing/crazy are airports and is there anything i should be warned (lol) about.
- it can be crazy if it's during the peak season. just stay alert. And since this is your first time, go to the airport earlier, so you will have plenty of time to orient yourself there. :) |

well some airlines take will take your luggage and others won't i would call and ask the airline about that one. I would also wear flip flops and take a pair of shoes with you in your carry on bag. flip flops are easier to deal with when going through security. if you have time to go outside before your next flight takes off then by all means go get some air. you may want to talk to the ppl in the terminal who are waiting on the same flight as you and see if any of them are doing the same trip as you or have the same connection you guys can stick together and navigate the airport or ports. i hope this helps a little bit and good luck |

They automatically put your luggage on the next plane..Unless your lay over is over 5 hours, I suggest you don't leave. Planes never leave exactly on schedule. So you never know when you're going to have to board. Most people don't want to go through security again. It'd be a huge hassle. Check out TSA.Gov for what you can/can't take. You always need to be listening and mark your bag with something that you can identify easy because there will be bags that look like yours. Once, about 5 years ago,I was with my mom and older brother at baggage claim and this lady in her mid 60's to early 70's was standing near us. She put a lei on her bag so she knew it was hers. Something that stands out to you..Look at signs and don't be afraid to ask people for help! Chances are if you're flying out on a week day there will be tons of people going on business that fly in and out of that airport several times a year. |

Regarding your luggage, the big sticker/UPC tag thing (I'm sure there's a better name for it?) that gets attached to the handle of your luggage when you check in is scanned as it travels on conveyer belts through the airport and gets sent to your plane. It gets loaded on the plane with other luggage that will be unloaded for a connecting flight at the next airport, rather than luggage that is staying on the plane. That airport's baggage handling system does the same scanning and sorting as the last one, as do all the other airport's, until both you and your luggage arrive at your destination.
A quick caution: yes, this is how people's luggage gets "lost" at the airport. But don't be too worried, because the vast majority of baggage arrives at its destination with its owners. This system handles millions of bags every day (seriously, millions). |

There is always first time.
1. When you check in at the very first airport, make sure the luggage is checked through - this means they do all the moving and you see your luggage at the destination. I have done this for many international flight. At the checking time they will give you a baggage tag (one part stuck to your luggage and the counterpart with you ), save it carefully. In case the luggage arrives late, the tags are your IDs. As you know you cannot lock the baggage, so very valuable items, like jewelery, keep with you in your hand baggage. I use those garbage bag squeeze ties, to keep the zippers closed. If you have to lock the luggage, when you check in, get clearange with the security and lock in their presence after they OK it.
2. You are not allowed to leave the airport. Airports are pretty big and there is plenty of space to get air, food, drinks, magazines etc. as well as gift shops. It is better if you reach the waiting area of your next flight and wait there.
3. As you know the obvious ones like liquids(>3 oz), gels(>3 oz), sharp objects like nail clipper, scissors etc. Once you get past the security, you could however, purchase water bottles, juice etc.
4. The airports could get crazy sometimes. If you are changing planes (and airlines) at a very large airport(NYC, Atlanta etc.), it gets very unnerving. Usually when you get out of the plane, there are airline helpers for guiding you to reach the area where you will catch your next plane. If you don't see anyone, ask for one.
Every time you board a plane, they will ask for a pictured ID. So, it would be a good idea to keep your ID, itinarary in such a way it is easily available as well as safely put away.
When you arrive at the destination, find out where the luggage of your flight will be sent for collection. Go to that conveyor belt and pick up your luggage.
Keep something to much like a few crackers or cookies. Also something to keep you occupied. I have seen DVD players, Nice books, electronic games like SUDOKU etc.
Happy flying. |

1. Most airlines will move your luggage for you, if you changing to a small regional carrier somewhere in Africa, you'll have to move your own luggage. The clerk at the airport where you first check in will tell you exactly when/if you will need to pick up your bags.
2. You can leave the airport but you will have to back through security and renavigate the airport, so unless your layover is three or more hours, I wouldn't risk it.
3. Don't take anything onboard that you don't absolutely need, they are all kinds of rules and regulations.
4. All airports are different, some are well designed and easy to navigate, others are nearly impossible to figure out.
Good luck. |

Your luggage will automatically be transferred to the next flight, you don't have to do anything
Yes, you can leave the airport, but it's not a great idea,
You will have to go back through security and might get held up and miss your flight
You can't bring hamsters on the plane lol
Airports have signs all over the place, you can't get lost, except LAX, it's the most confusing airport I've ever been in |

can send luggage through before some people courier it there to make sure. domestic come and go best to stay as air lines have windows of departure early is best and stay close |

For your first question, yes they automatically transfer your bags to your connecting flight
Next, I'm pretty sure you can't go outside
Lastly, there's nothing to worry about. It's pretty simple, especially my first time. |
