Oh my god, I can never prepare enough for those stupid long haul flights.
My advice is not to go to sleep until after the first meal. if you go to sleep right after take-off, you'll miss the meal :P.
There'll be movies but I tell you what, they're usually crappy. Take a portable DVD player and a good lengthy DVD.
You could also try to sleep, but if you're like me, you know it's hard to in such a position.
Buy a U-shaped pillow and take some Benedryl or other sleep aids. |

Take a good book , but normally on long haul you get some decent in flight entertainment , obviously depending on the airline how good it can be .
By the time you factor in meals , and a bit of a snooze , the time usually passes quite quickly I find

I take with me a book, my bible, my iPod and a PSP. The iPod gets a lot of use as it helps to block out engine and passenger noise. Also get yourself an inflatable neck pillow. This'll help you to snooze a bit too. |

Read books/ magazine, most of the times you can catch a good sleep after reading a book or listening music.

Since your trip is long 12 hours I'm sure ure traveling with Boing 747 or some other big plane....so don;t worry, in big planes there are TV and music, and magazines of course.
In some new planes there are bars, casinos stuff like that that kips you in a good mood.
And u can allweys bring a book with you, or your iPod(if you have one),or notebook...
And if u cant sleep in a plane, why not try some medicins for sleeping?

Go to sleep on the plane, if you can, that will kill most of the time.
Read a book/magazine?
Take an Mp3 or I-pod?
Take a crossword, wordsearch, sudoku etc?
Also if you take headphones they usually play a film and you can plug your headphones in on the arm rest, well they do on the flights i've been on :)
