Do not lock your luggage if flying to the States - they will think you've something to hide and bust them open anyway. If you think its for security you want to lock them - dont bother - if dippers want to get in they will !!!! As for size of hand luggage - check on Virgins website of give customer services a call. Have a good trip xx

Hi,,, they allow around 75 or so pounds of luggage,, maybe less now, and dont lock your luggage either,, sorry but they do check the stuff you check in after you check in ....
The stuff on the carry on is like a big purse, or backpack, size that is what i use for myself...

good luck and happy flying..

I travel quite a bit for business and have found that if you lock your luggage and they feel that they need to search the bag they will break the lock if they can not open it. Last time I traveled I had my golf clubs with me and they broke the lock and I found a little paper inside from the TSA saying that they needed to break the lock in order to search the bag, but my normal luggage still had the lock in-tack. Go figure. Have fun on your trip!

I just flew back from America and they didn't let you have your cases locked cos they have to be able to look in them.

I would actually lock my case and if they do bust it open, so be it. Padlocks aren't that expensive, plus they're not much of a security deterrence for your items since they can easily be broken into. If you do decide to leave it open I would agree with one of your previous responders by purchasing a luggage band.

As for hand baggage. At the moment your hand baggage has to be within the dimensions of 56cm X 45cm X 25cm This is according to the new regulations published on 6 Novemeber 2006

The weight for your hand baggage is a hit and miss. I were told on the return leg by KLM to unload some stuff cos it was too heavy. I was only allowed a maximum of 8kg, and yes they weighed it. But they didn't say anything the last few times I've flown with them. I've since used BA and Lufthansa and they have been fine. When you check in your luggage, your airline rep might want them on the belt anyways because they need to tag your hand luggage.
Technically there is a limit, because can you imagine if everyone brought a 15kg case on board? The overhead baggage shelf you'll be sitting under will not handle that kind of weight. The kilos do soon had up quite quickly since each shelf can take around 5 or six pieces at any one time.
Plus there ought to be a limit since I had a cabin case hit me on the head when I was asleep cos some idiot brought an oversized case on board, and didn't get it out carefully.

Do check http://www.heathrowairport.com they have the latest security announcement, or use the website of whichever airport you'll be flying with. Although generally they all say the same thing.

I never lock my carry on bag. I do lock the ones that go in baggage on the plane. There are special locks that TSA can open, if they need to be. Be sure you have these locks on, or your suitcase may have the lock broken.

Look up your airlines on the Net. They will have their sizes and restrictions. I do not know here you are coming from. El Al has the smallest sized restriction on carry ons. And, your baggage to go in the baggage area cannot be locked. I have had no trouble with theft or such.

Dont use the locks on the suitcase. Go to the luggage store and get TSA approved locks. That way if they do have to go in your bag, they have the master key. Going out of a larger airport, they will not call you back should they need to screen your bag will just break the locks if necessary. Any luggage store will have them and some major retail shops. But DO NOT use the suitcase's own locks. Yes you want to lock your bags especially going international.

On Virgin you are allowed to check 2 bags and each can not weigh more than 51lb or 23kg and can not exceed 62 linear inches or 158cm, that is when you add up the length + width + height.

Carry on you are allowed one carry on and one personal item such as a purse computer bag or briefcase. This includes shopping bags, pillows, make up bags, camera cases (the larger ones for video cameras) etc. 2 pieces total and maximum size of 22'x14"x9"

don't lock the case it will be OK as for the weight you can take it will be on your ticket telling you your limit have a good trip i know you have been waiting a long time and for all those how go on about spelling f@@@ you get a life

I do a lot of flying both pleasure and pain (business). I would advise you to lock your case. You can purchase special locks that airport security can open easily. Another option is to use a large belt that you can wrap around the case allowing you to lock the ends together.

Your checked luggage will be around 20Kg
Your onboard luggage is usually checked by site and size, not weight. The internals of your onboard luggage (hand luggage) will be scanned as you go through the check-in gates to board your plane.

I am jealous, have fun

Try to keep your checked luggage under 50 pounds for each piece, and if you cannot find a TSA lock, put a strap around your luggage so your bags don't accidently open. if you are from a country that will strap or wrap your luggage at the airport with official bands, that should be ok, and I have not had problems with customs. ( I flew in from China recently). Carry on luggage I never have had weighed, but space can be a problem. Although most airlines allow slightly larger bags, try to keep your carry on dimensions about 7X14X21 (inches) or less. if you bring a laptop, make sure it is easily accessed for security checks. wearing slip on shoes is a good idea also, for ease in security lines, and they might ask for your belt too.
Check with Virgins site, they would know exactly what the specs are. Enjoy your flight, and NYC is a great place. Be safe, and don't worry about your grammar, they talk funny in New York anyway!

onetopdesigner
how about I hide in your luggage so if there is any problems I can sort it out?

Whatever you decide, take some time to work on your spelling and grammar
