Low cost airlines: Why don't they understand "the customer" ?

I used Thomsonfly recently the price was good the conditions baggage allowance etc reasonable. Check in?....a nightmare!!

The check in staff envoked the excess baggage fine...1kilo onwards resulting in absolute chaos.

Is this a decision by Thomson to be "green"? or are they just clawing back the profit?
Additional Details
I realise low cost or budget = compromise in some way (usually) Having said that Whenever I've travelled Monarch I can't say I've ever had that "low cost airline experience"

My comments are really about the way some airlines, thomson in this case handle (or mishandle) their customers.

I wasn't one of the excess luggage passengers and neither were the 2 couples to my left which was just as well because their combined body weight alone would have cancelled out the complete luggage allowance for the rest of the plane. Whereas the majority of those rummaging around for plastic bags to off load 1-2 kilo.....weighed an average of 9stone and had no money left to buy up wine and spirits in the duty free...which our larger friends were seen doing, adding more weight!

All I'm saying is,why don't they look at the big picture

It's because, if you don't use a budget airline, they can cope with losing a small amount of profit on any customer's baggage etc because they've already got a huge turnover in profit. Budget airlines have only small profits - enough to pay for everything, just, and then generate a small amount of income - which is multiplied by the far greater number of flights than non-budget airlines. However, they are greedy, money-grabbing buggers, and therefore will catch you on every possible cause. That's life - you get only what you pay for.

They understand the customer, you want a low cost flight, they keep the cost low.

You cant expect to pay less than a bus fare to fly across Europe and get pampered as if you were in first class.

the question you should be asking is

WHY DONT CUSTOMERS UNDERSTAND
LOW COST AIRLINES

JoJo
All airlines are interested in is getting "Bums" on seats. The customer just has to go along with anything they come up with.
It all comes back to them making money. Even the most expensive airlines work the same. "Load `em up and get them out" is what they all work to.

Ryanaire do it as well - Let's just say we are never going to use them again!

For a low budget flight, it is absolutely obvious that you'll receive a low cost treatment from low budgeted staffs who is probably giving you a low class treatment. Does it make sense?

bert
All airlines are interested in one thing..............how much they can squeeze out of the customer. The two that I would avoid, unless really desparate are Easy Jet or Ryanair.

alphacenturi
I agree with Peachy, try Ryan Air and see the definition of the words incompetance, unorganised, indecision and disgrace.

?
You should have unpacked one kilo of clothes (2 jumpers) and put them on in front of the check-in desk and asked them "Will that make the plane lighter?" and watch their heads explode as they try and work it out...

Jerry
I think it's all about the money....Or inconsiderate staff who just want to mke your holiday go bad.

rosie
Was there not a luggage allowance stated on your terms and conditions. Alitalia charged me €115 once for overweight luggage and I can tell you, I didn't get the flight cheap.
I only fly Ryanair since, four so far this year and another 3 booked. You get to where you want to go for next to nothing, they are always on time and if you dont want to pay €10 for something to eat on the plane then buy it after you pass security and take it on board. And I have never found any of the staff rude.
