Man fined for smoking on plane
The man was fined after smoking on the Jet2 flight

View GalleryA PASSENGER who was caught smoking on board a flight into Blackpool has been fined.

The 35-year-old Preston man was arrested for the public order offence when the plane, jetting in from Alicante, landed in the resort at 3pm last Saturday.

The man was caught smoking in the toilets by cabin crew on board the Jet2.com flight before the pilot of the plane contacted airport police on the ground.

Officers came on board to arrest the men when the aircraft touched down in Blackpool.

The man was taken into custody and given a ÂŁ80 fine for public disorder.

Fellow passenger Derek Wilde, 46, from Cleveleys, was outraged with the man's actions. He said: "It was absolutely stupid.

"We heard someone had been caught smoking in the toilets but told to remain in our seats.

Without been flippant they are not going to stop you taking ciggies on board when they sell them to you at duty free prices on flights are they.

Why should everyone be stopped from carrying cigarettes and matches just because of 1 persons stupid actions. Most of us are sensible adults who can control our urges. xxxx

because if we pack them in our cases we wont be able to go outside for a smoke after we have checked our bags in

How did he put the plane in danger? they used to allow smoking on flights and stopped only because of the anti smoking nazi's

John K
Smoking will not cause the aircraft to crash.

Maybe the other passengers should sue the person for the danger to their health by exposing them to second hand smoke. We sue each other for everything else.

As much as I dislike smoking, I wouldn't penalize all the considerate smokers for one idiot.

For years it was permitted to smoke on planes. It doesn´t put a flight in danger at all, if someone smokes aboard. The airlines banned it - before it became law in any of the states - because it saved cleaning costs. No other reason. Believe me, it doesn´t matter to the board members of an airline, if someone is irritated by smoke iof a cigarette. All they think of, is to safe costs. And a lot of costs is saved, if there are no ashtrays of be cleaned, if the walls of a cabin has not to be washed as often as in smoking times.
The perfume carried aboard is mor dangerous than a pack of cigaretts. It is hghly explsive because of the contents of alcohol!!! So take away the perfumes of all femal passengers. They are carrying explosive material!!!!

In the U.S I believe that smoking on an airplane is a federal offense and the fine is up to $500 or $1000.

Perhaps the guys pro and conned the notion of lighting up and getting their fix vs. 80 pound fine. Very selfish act when the rest of the smokers on the plane could smell it and long for it!

hhaydn1
that was stupid!!!!
the smoke would stick around for hours, until the plane landed!!!!!
that is unfair for others around him and dangerous if the plane got too much smoke in it,
Think if everyone else on the flight had done what he did the plane might have filled up with smoke and might have crashed!!!!
