My Big Bear Ron

My ears clog as the plane lands. Have your done so? What have you done for relief? prevention?

I've tried ear plugs, and decongestants, but to no effect.

Try to make yorself swallow, or yawn, chew gum, suck on candy, or drink something. For babies on planes, they suggest giving them a pacifier or bottle to relieve the pressure.

I usually chew gum during the flight to prevent such things...I had the same problem recently though and the only thing that worked was for me to wait it out. I did notice they "popped" a little when I yawned...

Just Me
Chewing gum or sucking candy are the best things.

I used to live in the mountains and would sometimes have the same problems when driving up and down them. Its caused by the pressure change. The best way that I've found is to chew some chewing gum. It opens everything up and helps you build up saliva to swollow.

chew swallow yawn

I worked for an airline for years and flew all the time. The best thing to do, is during the entire flight, equalize your ears. Do this by yawning. Once you keep doing it, you can figure out the different techniques. When you do it, open the back of your throat real wide as if you were having an exam at a dr's office, if that makes sense. If you keep doing this during flight, you wont have a problem. As you make your decent, keep dong this. That way once you land, you wont have massive pressure on your ears. If you do, keep yawning or get your technique down. During the day today, practice, with your mouth closed, practice opening the back of your throat real wide.

You can also chew gum, but I dont find it as effective, or pop your ears using the old technique of holding your nose and blowing the pressure out.

the best thing to use is candy. If you suck on a piece of candy that will help. Also try gum, it works too. I use both of them flying.

(they say when babies fly always have a passy for them so there ears will be OK, that's why you suck on something ;-) )

As a frequent flyer the thing that has work for be is forcing myself to swallow. You can try hard candy, ice, or just plain old spit.
