The only way they discount in medical emergency is if death is imminant. Its called a bereavement fare, but its not always cheaper than the lowest discount fares. You can check the travel sites listed, but always go back and check directly with the airlines. The closer to departure them the more it will be. Southwest and JetBlue dont participate with the travel sites and dont fly to all cities in Florida, so it depends on where you need to fly to.

Depending on where in NY you are you can get some good deals. Spirit Airlines flies from LaGuardia, Atlantic City and Boston to Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale, Tampa and Ft. Myers. Right now if you get the days right, you can fly for $89 each way. They have sales weekly so watch them, they can post much lower fares. Their dirt cheap fares are not available on the travel sites, so go directly to their website for the sale fares.

If you do go through a travel site, make sure you price compare with the airlines. Use the total price of the fare to compare. The base fare listed does not include taxes and the booking fee travel sites will charge.

If you need help finding fares shoot me an IM or e-mail. Im not a travel agent or solicting services, just help a lot of people on Answers avoid being ripped off. Worked for an airline for many years.

No airline in particular will always have the best prices, like the first poster said. You should try visiting the travel sites and comparing each of them against each other, here's some links to sites I use:

www.farecompare.com - This one compares many of the travel sites and official airline websites and I recommend it.

www.kayak.com
www.hotwire.com
www.orbitz.com
www.travelocity.com
www.expedia.com

Once you've decided on a flight, make sure to call the airline and talk to them about your situation. You might get a better deal from them, it's worth a try. Good luck, and I hope your mother recovers with speed.

Try Travelocity.com - it shows all flights. Southwest and AirTran are usually fair. It really depends at where in FL you are going and the closest major airport. Purchasing in advance is usually a better way to get a cheaper price, but it sounds like you do not have that option. However, some airlines have last minute specials. So check the web and call the airlines. Otherwise, get the best rate possible and take care of your mom.

All the airlines will compete with there fares. If one airline drops its prices, the others will match it. So one particual airline is not going to always be cheaper then the other. I have noticed Delta seems to have the best fares to florida. Jet Blue always seems to be the highest. But it all depends on which particual dates you are looking at , and how full the flights are.

I always fly USAirways to Florida. JetBlue seems like it's one of the most expensive. Regardless, though, I always find the cheapest flights by checking with the airline's website directly.

starbrite
JetBlue usually has pretty low fares.

Jetblue offers cheap fllights. You may also consider taking a flight out of Newark airport rather than LaGuardia. Sometimes these flights are cheaper. I know that Newark is Continental's hub, so they have several flights everyday to Florida from Newark. Also, the best thing to get a cheap flight is to purchase a fare at least a couple of months in advance.

Tell the airline when booking that it is a medical emergency, they may be generous and help you out. Worth a try! Good Luck and sorry to hear your mom is so ill.

try a discount airline like southwest or go onto expedia.com - they can search all airlines and tell you what one is the least expensive.
