My son is 12. Does a child have to be at least 15 in order to fly?

I want my son to fly from seattle to newark,NJ. are there any airlines that will permit him to travel by himself?

Yes, he can fly as long as he has a not from you or his other guardian.

Servette
yes, with a letter from you giving the authorization

must check with airline first and book the trip with them. Not online

Am not sure about him flying by himself but my grandsons have travelled Virginia to Texas and return. Services were obtained for someone to watch over them during the flight time.

I have seen kids a lot smaller then that on planes by themselves (the fight attendant helps with them), and I believe they some times have rules about not having any connecting flights. But you would certainly have to arrange it with them up front.

all airlines will allow him to travel solo. Check the policy of the airline of your choosing. When you drop him off, you can get a security pass to see him to the gate. Upon arrival, he will be escorted by one of the flight crew to the person authorized to pick him up. The flight crew will check the ID of that person and your son will be on his way. Its a breeze and he'll probably have a blast with all the extra attention dutring the flight

There shouldn't be any problems. I've been on planes with little babies. My nephew is only 5 and he's flown a few times before.

According to the Contintental Airlines website, unaccompanied minors ages 8-14 are accepted for nonstop, direct and connecting flights by the airline. There is at least one nonstop flight from SEA to EWR (Newark).
You can't make the reservation for an unaccompanied minor on the website without being a OnePass member, so you'll have to call the reservation number.

He can travel alone - just make arrangements for an airline employee to take responsibility for him until he can be picked up by a relative. I've met children flying from Europe alone so across the U.S. shouldn't be a problem.

I would be really hesitant,in this day an age,Michael Jackson might be on board,,impersonating a man! I would check the airlines,,, and ask their rules about it. Iknow there used to be a system of stewardesses escorting him from one point to another,, and signing for him,, ( special package) I would really be concerend for his safety,, and make sure he has proper I.d,, and a list of phone numbers,, where he is comming from and to ( Itinerary) I would want to cover all concerns,, as well as make sure he knows what to do, in case of anything, and everything. Hope he has a safe trip! Of course some smart butt like me, might say, "kick him off the roof, and see if he can fly", so i thought I would beat them to it!

You have to let the air line know that he is flying alone so that they can place him on the plan where he can be checked on through out the flight. It's real easy and simple
