Nervous about flying? |
I have a chance to go to California with 2 of my friends (were all 14) and I really want to go, but I am so freaked out about flying! It's my first flight and it's 4 hours long. I heard that flying could possiably pop your eardrum out and I'm toatly scared about that because when I go underwater into deep water and come back up my ears have pressure and hurt. Any way chewing gum or something would help? Is flying bad? Is the securtiy tight? Can I bring my iPod and camera in my carry-on bag? |

Flying is nothing to worry about. Takeoff and landing will be a little bumpy. If the captin or First Officer tells you that the plane is going through turbulence, it will be a little bumpy in flight, but it is nothing to worry about. You are much safer flying to California than you would be to drive. I am a Private Pilot student right now, so I am used to the ear popping thing. But, before I would hold my ears shut on takeoff to prevent pressure from building up. Chewing gum helps a little. Flying is great. Security is tight. Follow all of the instructions and rules. You can bring your ipod and camera in your carry on. But on a flight, make sure you listen for the crew to allow use of electronic devices. |

hey girl...don't worry...i hate flying, only cuz i have anxiety and i hate being confined and not beng able to run away...but flying is cool...security is TIGHT...they will not allow a plane to go if something doesnt look right....trust me, i just got back from cali on sunday and i was stuck at the airport for 9 hours cuz of the weather! they know what they are doing...your eardums will not pop out..just rememeber ppl fly ALL The time!!! your more likely to get into a car accident than a plane accident!!! have fun in cali!!! i miss living there! |

I used to be the same way as you and I've overcome it. A few things to know: yes, you can bring your ipod and camera. Security is tight, but as long as you follow all the rules, you'll be fine. Remember, only liquids in your carryon have to be 3 ounces or less and in a clear plastic ziploc bag. Bring gum and drinks to help your ears. I have ear problems too, but mine have never popped, so don't even worry about it. If you're really anxious, try taking a dramamine pill before hand. That will help calm you down and make you feel less sick. Plus, it usually makes you drowsy, so you might just sleep through most of the flight. Bring magazines and things to keep your mind off of the fact that you're flying. You'll do fine and it'll be over before you know it. Good luck. |

When you get on the plane tell the attendant it is your first time flying and you are nervous.
Also tell them that if its going to bumpy you would like to know in advance.
One in seven people are scared of flying so you aren't alone in your fear when you are on the plane.
They will do what they can to make sure you know what is going on.
Have fun!!! |

Flying is wonderful. Flying is safer than driving... think about how many car accidents there are in a day.
Check out the Youtube link and maybe you'll feel better.
You can chew gum or yawn if your ears pop. It doesn't hurt though - it just feels a little funny.
Security is good, you will feel safe. Bring your iPod and camera in your carry-on. You sound ready to go. |

One warning- DO NOT act nervous at the airport. Recently they made a new security regulation that anyone they notice acting nervous will be subjected to extra screening (or at least this is what I heard- better safe than sorry). Really, security and the high chance for long flight delays is much scarier than flying itself. |

there is no way that flying will pop your ear drums. all you will feel is a discomfort in your ears. just chew on something and the pressure that you feel will go away.
security in certain airports are tight. i suggest you get to the your airport three hours ahead of your boarding time.
its just better to be there earlier than to miss your flight.
yes you can bring your ipod and camera. security usually takes all liquids before you enter the terminals and then you can buy whatever liquids you might need after you pass into the terminal area. |

It's easy and painless. I used to fly every week for two years. I know people who fly everyday. Keep you carry on simple. Wear slip on shoes with clean socks. Keep the metal you're wearing to a minimum. Unless you're sick you're ears will be fine. Just remember. People are flying all day everday and almost nothing EVER happens. We're safe. Sure things have happened and it's always on your mind. Just go, you'll be. You'll feel like a moron if you don't go cause you'll miss the fun. Plus crashing into the ground at 600 MPH is a really cool way to die. :P have fun |

You can have eltronics. If your ears pop try ear planes you can get them at most places. Try cvs if you have one. They work great. And I think flying is fun. |
