What is the worst person that you could sit by in an airplane?
If you were on an airplane, who is the worst person that you could sit by? Don't make stupid answers. Be truthful!...

OK, I'm a flight attendant, why is it that when people get on an airplane.....?

Why is it that when people get on an airplane, the first thing they gotta do is go pee? When there are plenty of nice fresh bathrooms in the airport concourse!! That's erks me to no end. Then they order all these beverages and get up when the "fasten seat belt sign comes on". And then get upset when you ask them to take their seats. I don't get it!!!

I too am a flight attendant and experience the exact same thing. The only thing I can think of, and I tell myself this often, is the plane is our office. We are used to all that goes on during every phase of flight. And most people don't travel as much. I also think some people check their common sense with their luggage. I guarantee that those that get up with the seat belt sign on have never been on a flight with real turbulence.
And to the comment about the mile hight club...do you have any idea just how dirty those little bathrooms are?! I don't think that there are that many flight attendants that want to go in the bathroom to do normal stuff, much less join the mile high club.

if it makes you feel any better, of all of the flights i have taken, i only remember peeing during 2 of them. maybe they all had too much coffee?

floridasun5
Maybe they were running late. I remember my last flight, due to a traffic accident on the road, it caused me to get to the airport only 45 minutes before the plane was to take off, meaning by the time we got through security and to the gate, the plane was ready to go in like 10 minutes. I didnt have time to use the restroom in the terminal, so I had to go as soon as I got on the plane. Combined with the fact that the airports usually have so many good coffee shops LOL that I have to go more than usual when I drink coffee.

Some people are nervous flyers.

kerfitz
Maybe because they sat on their *sses in the waiting area so long that they didn't need to pee until they stood up (when the flight was boarding) and decided they could hold it (instead of losing their place in line) until they got into the air, then the 30 minute wait (or longer) to take off and the ten minutes until the seat belt sign go off is just a little too long to wait.

Most of the people I fly with aren't like that. I'm a passenger though, so perhaps you are noticing the few troublemakers and ignoring the rest. I would bet that if you get 100 people together at any one time, someone is going to have to pee, but not everyone.

Some people are also nervous and behind schedule before flights and can't go, then when they make their plane and relax, they have to go. It's part of the whole American mentality of being in a hurry all the time. I don't know why people don't leave earlier.

Yes logically speaking everyone would do the right thing...but human beings are human beings.....I suggest that you stop letting things that you have no control of erk you.......

Camille
Maybe they are just nervous about their flight. One thing I'm sure of, the chance they are doing it just to piss you off is highly unlikely. They are just people being people.

Terri
I always always go to the bathroom before I get on the plane. The airplane bathroom is soooo tiny and the restrooms are never far away. I also always get to the gate early enough so I can use the bathrooms in the airport.

I think they hold it trying to make sure they are there when it is time to start boarding. I have only used a bathroom on a plane once. out of about 20 flights. That was because a long layover and way too many Budweisers.

Those are all good questions,I guess the answer has to do
with human nature. Common sense is in short supply.
As someone who has flown as a passenger about a dozen
times so far,I would like to add that my own pet peeve is
people who bring wailing infants on long international flights
so that the rest of us can suffer. As well, you have to love the
people who engage in loud conversations when everyone
else is trying to sleep. I had a Chinese man sitting in front
of me with two companions for a twelve-hour flight and he literally talked non-stop the whole time. No thanks to the flight
attendants, who didn't ask him to quiet down once the entire
flight and most of the time were nowhere to be found.

PfcsBaby
I think its for several reasons. One being the obvious, fear of flying or just plain nervousness. I also think that some people are just arriving to the gate after going through security, just to make it there as the plane boards, so they have nowhere else to use the bathroom. Also, have you seen the conditions of some of the bathrooms at the airport? They dont get cleaned enough. Also, people want to go pee as soon as they board so they dont have to get up during the flight. Either way it is, people need to go and who cares where they go. Not like you have to clean up after them.

slipper
I'm not so sure that is a common thing, or perhaps I haven't noticed it. You would probably be in a better position to notice. Maybe they are nervous about flying. Depending on how long the flight is would account for the beverages with some people. Maybe they feel that if they drank enough alcohol they may get some sleep? Just a theory.
