No. I was on a Pan Am flight DC-9 that had seats facing towards the back of the plane. There is no requirement, although it did look a lot steeper looking back the other way during take off. |

...would you rather face the bathroom? |

So it's easier to walk to the front! Duh!
If you do it the other way, you are making a fire hazard. |

So that the plane doesn't have to fly backwards. |

Would you want to ride facing the rear? Not fun!! |

The only reason i can think of is if your going backwards, then it might increase your chances of having motion sickness. |

Not all planes do have front facing seats. Commercial Airlines have front facing seats so they can fit more passengers inside! Actually, in American Airlines, you can find rear facing seats in 1st class. |

Because it is the most cost efficient and safe configuration of the seats...Airlines are in the money business. |

I've rode on a plane where some seats face the back, i think it was southwest. Anyway, my mom sat in one and she said the whole time it felt like you're being pushed forward |

You know, thats a darned good question! It would be a bit safer, as the back of the seat would afford some crash protection. I would guess that the reason the seats face forward is that passengers, (who always sit forward in a car or on a bus or a train), would feel more comfortable seated in the manner to which they are accustomed. Taking an additional safety precaution might just stress the danger a bit. |

because we're moving forward and not backward.. if you want a seat that face backward, you might need to build your own seat... |

What a meaningful question! |

For the same reason your seats in a car face the front...natural force tells us thats how we are suppossed to sit. But Chrysler has a new van that the seats swivel and theres a table int he middle...very nice. |

i will design a plane that have seats facing backwards |

I guess so they can fit more seats on the plane. I was on a plane once that had backward facing seats. It was really neat when taking off. The airline changed the seating pattern to allow for more seats. They had seats facing eachother in the first few front rows. |

were so used to it from when we only had cars, and when we had cars it was so you could see out the front window |
