They are right. There are no assigned seats. It pretty much sucks, but you can give yourself a leg up. Check in online and print your boarding pass from there. This will give you a better chance of getting in the first seating group.

On a positive note, Southwest is considering having assigned seats! It will be in the future, but its something to look forward to. I know I will book them more when they do.

I fly Southwest all the time and never have any problems with seating. This is because I make sure I check in online 24 hours before my flight and this automatically puts me in seating group A. Then I make sure I am at the gate 30 minutes before boarding and in line with the "Group A" people. I am usually one of the first people on the plane and never get seperated from the people I am flying with. This is a great system for people who plan, are organized, and are responsible. If you are unable to remember to check in online and are unable to get yourself to the airport on time, then this system is not for you. Pay more and fly another airline.

No assigned seating. You pay Greyhound bus fares, you get Greyhound bus service.

Southwest seating is general. They do allow pre-boarding for the disabled or families with children under age 5. If you can, print a boarding pass asap. Passengers are generally sorted into 3 groups (A,B,C). The earlier you get your pass the more likely you are to be in the A group. Enjoy your trip!

Only inconvienent if traveling with a large group, it can be hard to find seats together. Here's a huge tip, you can register or check in up to 24 hours in advance, and you get assigned a boarding pass and group. It is first come first serve. if you wait until the airport, you'll get in the last group and get the worst seats. You may also get bumped, because Southwest overbooks by 25% and last come first bumped!

I am serious! there wasn't any assigned seating hahaha, oh and another note on that those ladies whispered it under their breath, one had a car seat so she needed to sit some where easily acessible while the other lady had her and acouple of her college friends, it was just a little yelling and get out you retard, but it didn't delay the flight though.

As of right now they do not have assigned seating, its a cattle call. If you check in online you will be guarenteed A group seating, or first dibs. BUT they are test marketing assigned seating after many many many complaints and upset people who are split up. Is it an inconvenience, yes and no. No because you arent paying for a specific seat, just a seat on an airplane. Yes, because you can be seperated from your travel partner or group if more than one or two of you are traveling. It also slows down the boarding process with people fighting for seats instead of a mythodicaly boarding from rear forward or Zone Boarding.

Southwest does not assign seats. This is a nusciance for some people but it's great for others. It certainly does not cause any inconveniences because they have a quick turnaround rate. However, if Southwest was to begin flying internationally, they would have to assign seats on those flights to account for everybody.
