Passports required?

Is it true that, effective in 2007, everyone must have a passport to travel by air, even between US cities?

In 2007, a passport is needed to go to Canada, Mexico and the Carribean, but not within the US.

Mike R
No... only to leave the country (including going to Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean). All you need is a photo identification, i.e. driver's license, but that is nothing new - we've needed that for years.

effective Jan. 8, 2007 you will need a passport to travel to the u.s. from every country. the only exceptions will be land travel from Canada and Mexico which will take effect on June 1, 2009. if you are in the u.s. or its territories you do not need a passport to travel between cities. but if you left the u.s. and came back in you would. example Puerto Rico to Jamaica and then back.

That's news to me. I don't think so.

No, not between US Cities

Princess Buttercup
No, this is not true. Whoever told you this is probably confusing the new restrictions on traveling to Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. As of Jan 1, 2007, birth certificates and driver's licenses will no longer be acceptable forms of identification when traveling to and from those countries - passports are now required.

As far as traveling within the US, an unexpired government issued photo ID that matches EXACTLY the name on the ticket is all that one needs to board a flight.

No.....I haven't heard that. But you will need one to go to places just out of the country that you didn't need before.

Bluealt
No it isn't required for domestic travel. But effective Jan07 you will need a passport to travel outside the US.

No... Considering less than half of Americans have a passport, a requirement like that would bring domestic air travel to a screeching halt....
