Plane crashes? Never flown! Please help...?

It seems like everyday theres a new plane that crashes.... I'm going to Washington here in a few weeks. I've never flown. I'm flying alone. I'm 18. And I am pretty scared......

What can I do? How rare is it that a plane crashes? I am freaking out now. I just saw ANOTHER plane crash on the news.
Additional Details
A plane crash everyday??? Oh wow, now I feel worse.

Okay, seriously, calm down! There are so few plane crashes that the ones that DO happen kinda get exaggerated.

Statistically I think you have a better shot at the lottery than dying in a plane crash.

There's a website, I can't find it, but it lists the top 10 ways people are scared they'll die and the top 10 ways people actually die. None of them match, and the top ten people are scared of are statistically so rare like no one dies of them. Plane crashes is one of those.

Yes, it's scary, and unfortunately it has been happening more, BUT just look at it this way. You are more at risk of getting into a car accident than your plane to crash.

More people are killed in car wrecks everyday than in planes. It's just that when a plane crashes there are so many victims at one time that it seems extra bad. Go fly. Have a great time.

My first plane experience was at the EAA (EXPERIMENTAL Aircraft Association, yes they hand-built their planes) down here in New Orleans. I got to actually go up in one that was just built and tested once, and then he let me fly it. It was wonderful, except I had a daredevil pilot that cut the engine over Jazzland.

I'm sure your's will be much better. You're gonna be fine and just bring an ipod or cd player, close your eyes, and once the noise stops from takeoff (which its not that bad) and the ride becomes super smooth again, fall asleep and in about an hour or three you'll be awakened and land and be happy you've made your first trip!

Also remember how many flights fly each day (literally thousands, maybe even millions) and its only once in a while one crashes. Helicopters are another story, but boeings and C-130s are your safest planes to be in.

ENJOY!

The plane crash in Buffalo was the first fatal crash in the US in over 2 years. You are much more likely to get killed in your car than in an airplane. I flew to Germany alone (the first time I'd flown alone) when I was 18. I was pretty scared, too. But you will be just fine.

I love to fly now. I hope you have a great trip!

Recently, I found a website that sorta calmed my anxiety. At least a little. Try www.fearofflying.com or something like that. The name of the company is SOARS. A retired pilot can answer your questions. His assistant called me to help me with my flight.

Don't be scared!! i would say airplane is a million time safer than ground transportation. There is an airplane accident almost everyday, however, if you compare the accident percentage between air and ground transportation, air transportation's is relatively "tiny". Also, aircraft safety regulation is very tight. So don't worry! I've been flying for years for hundred thousand miles, and i enjoy it!

According to this site the odds are 0.002%. Do not stress out. Airplanes are very safe, they have escape exits, and even life jackets, in case you land in water. I doubt anything will happen to you. Have fun on your trip! :-)

the chances of your plane crashing is 1 out of 11 million. would you rather drive or fly? i know i would rather fly because it is safer than driving. air travel is one of the safest modes of transport. you dont hear about many car crashes because they happen all the time. plane crashes are rare, so when one happens, the news are all over it
