Plane taking off in rain?

I have my trip coming up tomorrow morning and it's suppose to rain/pour in the morning...I know this is a stupid question, but do planes take off a lot when it's pouring, and how can they do it?

They almost always take off in the rain, even if it's pouring. How they do it I'm not sure but it happens all the time. I've flown a few hundred times and have even taken off when it's been snowing/sleeting (light snow - not a blizzard) and also really foggy. So unless there's a ton of lightning then the rain probably won't affect the flight at all.

Yes planes can take off in the rain but there are sometimes delays, usually nothing happens its all normal.

They just have to take off and if they get high enough you can get above the rain clouds and its dry

nickipettis
they can take off, not considered dangerous
unless they have poor visibility or a short runway.
or their is nearby lightning.

they can do it because the forces involved ( lift, thrust, drag, and gravity) are only changed a little ( mostly increasing drag)

They do just fine - there is usually some turbulence going through clouds.

Rain does not bother planes, they are quite heavy, so they maintain traction pretty well.

What affects planes in weather is wind - if it is windy as well as rainy you may have a delay. This is especially true with thunderstorms, and, of course, extreme weather like tornadoes.

Yes I worked for GEAEBG (General Electric Aircraft Engine Business Group) and they test Engines for more water than you have ever seen coming down, birds getting sucked into engines, ice, snow, etc. I have flow many times and it is perfectly safe.

If its a real bad storm they may delay the lifht, but if you take off in the rain you will be fine.

confused16
planes take off normally in the rain

ethansma24
So long as the visibility is ok, the winds aren't terrible, and there is no lightening in the area, you should be just fine. You may experience some delay, but just rain isn't enough to cancel a flight. Have a good trip!

In response to your second question...if you do miss your connecting flight, they will put you on the next available flight out to your final destination.

Don't worry!
Just relax.
Do you know how does it fly in a clear day? Well, in the rain it's the same!

I do believe it happens from time to time. But personally I don't mind, I'll piss myself with fear but when it's over I think about it as another experience, even if it's random.

About your second question,
If the flight is of the same airline, then the delay of your first flight shouldn't bother you. The second plane won't take-off without you. If it does, the airline will provide accommodation to you.
Do go through the airlines policies and terms and conditions.
Have a pleasant trip.
