Scared to fly and go away in less than 4 weeks?

Am going to spain on sept 16 , iv flown several times before and always ge very nervous a few days before
After hearing about the Madrid crash yesterday , i am now absolutely terrified the same thing will happen as these things usually happen in threes and close together
I ma flying with my 2 young kids aged 4 and 1 so am even more wary as they will be with me
i keep having visions of the plane blowing up in mid air or being hijacked or coming off the runway and cant get it out of my head
am also flying with Ryan air and am now worried as this is a very cheap airline so am thinking that perhaps the pilots are not trained aswel as others so that why it so cheap
also I'm flying 5 days after september 11th
you are all gonna think i am mad but i am genuinely scared , i don't want to cancel my holiday as my 4 yo would be gutted but what can i do to stop being so scared and get the thoughts out of my head
taking off scares me most, don't mind landing but hate turbulence
what can i do?
Additional Details
i know they are rare but 4 crashes did happen all on one day several years ago!

I flew to Florida as soon as the airports opened again september 2001. We were meant to fly September 12th. I know it's scary but you just have to get on with it and not let fear run your life! If it's any concellation the safety time to fly is right after another crash as the statistics prove the odds of it happening twice in close proximity is slim! You could be hit by a bus or have a heart attack at any time (and there's a much higher chance of that than being in an incident with a plane!) Movies have upped the ante with these problems, remember it's only hollywood and it's REALLY unlikely any of it will happen!

ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY!

Well yes all these things could happen - but they could also happen if you stay at home. More people worry themselves to death in the departure lounge than actually die in aeroplanes.

Most problems with aeroplanes are because they are not maintained properly. Planes taking off and landing at UK and Irish airports are subject to the most vigorous checks in the world. The plane that crashed at Madrid wouldn't have been allowed to take off from a UK airport.

Ryanair has the best safety record of all the world's airlines. The planes are fairly new and well maintained. You might get ripped off on the ticket price, be charged extra for sitting down or for having any luggage - but you'll be fleeced in safety.

My wife is the same. The flight will be fine. You are more likely to be killed by the spanish drivers taking you to your hotel (sorry if that makes you more nervous).

Spanair the airline involved in Madrid crash has carried 104 million passengers over its 20 years history, only 153 of them died, Qantas Airways have been flying for 88 years and NEVER had a fatal crash, budget airlines in Western Countries including Ryanair have excellent safety records.

Personally when I go on a holiday I get excited about the flight itself as much as the destination! and I always make sure to reserve a window seat so I can marvel our beautiful planet from 35000 feet altitude. Go ahead with your holiday and enjoy your flights!

I understand your fears, i do not like flying either. It is still the safest form of transport, plus Ryanair pilots and planes have to meet the same standards as do all other british airlines.
You could travel via train but thats a long trek with 2 young kids, maybe try taking something like "calms" to help relax you before you fly, be brave for the kids and have a great holiday, see you on here at the end of September.

Being scared's Ok you won't die of it. You are being very silly and you are well aware. Plane crashes do not come in threes and close together - they are in fact vewry rare and there hasn't been one for ages. A pilot is a pilot - they are all trained to the same standards and all airlines are governed by the same bodies and have to have the same safety standards. Keep yourself busy and don't waste time sitting worrying about your holiday and the flight - you are just wqinding yourself up which is crazy. You are far more likely to die in a car than a plane but you don't think about that every time you get in a car and you have more chance of winning the lottery! So my advice is be scared and get on with your life. Get some help from a hypnotherapist who also uses NLP if you don't think you can do it on your own.

Ahh poor thing you must be terrified! But dont worry you will be fine!! You are seriously more likely to have crash in car! My friend was in the same boat and was terrified of flying and went to her doctor and he prescribed her valium for the journey to calm her down!! Maybe you could try that, however she does suffer from panic attacks and if you are the only adult with the kids maybe not a good idea! Other ideas you can get wrist bands that help calm nervers!! Boots do good calming tablets!! Or although its short notice maybe a bit of hypnotherapy!!
Hope this has helped terrible that all these things e.g madrid crash ahve happened so near to your holiday!! Although easier said than done please do not worry you will be absololutely fine!!!!! Aslo i always fly with Ryanair and there great!! All piolots get the same training ad qualification no matter what airline they fly for!!!!

Bad things can happen no matter what you are doing. Flying on planes is pretty safe, honestly I was more nervous on the way home from the airport with my sister driving than I was on the planes.

I enjoyed my holiday so much, it was well worth the time spent in the air. The pilots and other airline employees value their lives as well. I wouldn't sweat it. I got pretty cheap tickets too and made it back in one piece with no worries. Except missing my honey.

Good luck!

Do you believe in destiny? Do you know whether you are going to make it up till tomorrow? There are things within your capacity which you can control (example don't drink and drive)... but there are other things which you cannot control and therefore have to bear at the mercy of life. What is destined to happen will happen.
So do not worry too much on things that you don't have control of. Example: You could have been on board one of the buses that were targeted during the London bombings.... but luckily enough you weren.t.... did you have any control that day?? We live only once and it is up to you to decide whether you are going to live it in fear or make the best of it.
I have a young daughter aged 5, I would do anything for her. I live in Malta so I need the plane to travel; in five years we have been to Poland, Sicily, Austria, Cyprus and Austria for the 2nd time.

Take things easier and:-

DO NOT WORRY ABOUT TOMORROW, AS TODAY IS THE TOMORROW WHICH YOU WORRIED ABOUT YESTERDAY.

hey
check on what kind of aircraft you are flying on - it should be an airbus or a boeing they are good don't worry and think of how many air crafts depart every minute around the world and non of them crashes . . . well rarely. don'tworry !
