I'm scared of flying too. Bought my first passport earlier this year, thinking i may overcome my fear but still haven't used it. I'm also terrified of water. We all have fears. I'm determined that one day i will overcome mine so why don't you and then you can tell us all about it...... |

Don't worry - you won't be at risk of DVT on a 3 hour flight. I used to be terrified of flying - before we even took off, I'd have the sick-bag in my lap! But gradually I grew out of it. After all, when you look at the flight crew and see how professional they all are and realise that they do this day in, day out for a living without batting an eyelid, it makes you realise just how safe it is. I regularly go on long haul flights now (going to Hong Kong later this week in fact!) and now thoroughly enjoy the experience - in fact I now look upon it as an extension of my holiday!! I can also recommend Rescue Remedy spray as well - it's great for relaxing you.
Just sit back and enjoy yourself! |

Don't worry I am 13 and going on a plane by myself for the second time now.
Flying is not scary unless you let yourself be scared. As long as you stay not scared and not stressed then the flight will be great! |

3 hours is nothing you wont get DVT on a 3 hour flight.
DVT happens on long haul flights atleast 8 hours. I been on Sydney-LA which was 15 hours, you just need to get up from the seat a few times and walk around. Dont cross you legs and have them in weird positions and nothing should happen. |

If one keep moving your legs and feet, buy some flight socks from the travel section in your local departmental store, make sure you are well hydrated and if possible go for a short walk at some point during the flight, but I would say that it would be highly unlikely to get a D.V.T. in such a short space of time. |

If it is just flying you are scared of then
just treat it as a normal car, coach, train, tube journey but a little bit longer.
Only difference is you will get a meal, the chance to have a drink and you can get up and walk around, go to the toilet etc.
Also think of it as cinema complex or entertainment centre and play some games/watch some films.
If there is a bit of turbulence, think of it as being on a fairground ride. try and sleep for as much as you can - this will lessen any periods of anxiety.
But THE best piece of advice is to concentrate on why you are there - to start a brilliant holiday. I am sure it will all be worthwhile. |

no need to be scared, you are safer in a plane than in a car on the road, take some ear plugs and put them in your ears when takeing off, remove them once the plane is airborne, put them in again when landing,i am sure you Will enjoy your flight,my wife and i have made quite a lot flights with no ill effects and we love travelling by air,i am sure you will too, happy landings, as for dvt, just have a walk up and down the gangway, just for a little exercise if you need to. |
