Should I book December plane tickets now or wait?

I've heard rumors of gas prices heading downwards in Seattle. Any chance that plane tickets will follow suit? Will tickets get cheaper or more expensive? I'm wanting to go to New York in December.

Generally, as more and more seats fill up on each specific flight, the cost to buy one of the remaining seats on that flight will go up. I would bet that this would counteract any decrease in ticket prices that you'd see if fuel costs went down.

There's no way to tell for sure, but if it were me, I'd go ahead and buy it.

You might also want to look at www.farecast.com though.

generally the earlier you book your tickets the cheaper they are.

Just as everyone has said, December is a busy month to travel and tickets will sell out. It is a bit of a gamble because the price of oil is dropping now. I would check out JetBlue's website at http://www.jetblue.com to see how much a plane ticket costs. Then compare that to what the other airlines are charging.

try this site for cheap tickets and vacations

also it will be cheaper if you book on the weekdays instead weekends

NOW.

Typically, I get the BEST prices 2-4 months in advance. When you look it up, all the prices are the same for different flights on the same day. It gets messy about 1-2 months before the departure date, all the prices get jacked up.

When you see that all the prices for all the flights are the same for the same airport, for the same destination throughout thet day, that means nobody is starting to book yet. It almost never goes down when I book. There are occasions when my ticket goes down probably 30-40 bucks. But that's rare. I'd rather get the ticket early, than to wait and have it POSSIBLY go down, but will MOST LIKELY go up. I'd rather lose out on 30-40 bucks than to have to buy a ticket for 300 dollars more.

And especially since it's the holidays, you would wanna book early, those tickets will never go down in price, because they only go down when they need to sell out the tickets, but tickets are always sold during holiday seasons

kat
you have to book now because if you wait until december [[since its a holiday month,]] you either wont find the tickets you need or they will be about $300 or more expensive than if you buy them right now. Trust me, I did the same.

answer mine please.?

December is a busy time in NY. I would get them now, especially if you are planning on going around the holidays. Once you purchase your tickets, still check the website of the carrier you are flying on. If your ticket price does go down, most airlines will credit you back the difference usually with a future travel voucher.
Just be careful, as some airlines do charge a reissue fee to do this. I would suggest finding what airline is the cheapest and calling them direct to ask the agent what their procedure is when this happens and what and if there is a fee

Recommend to put some "airfare alerts" on any of the following sites. IN any case is too early. 45 to 21 days in advanec is plenty.

Please check:
Tips:
a- use flexible dates
b- use alternative airports

now a days air travel is like going to a casino, its a gamble on getting the best price I would say get the tickets in advance because they are less expensive.
Usually I think the rule of thumb is 4 weeks in advance because thats about when they start to go up and I think 10 days is when you notice a major change in price.
