Should Minneapolis airport baggage handlers be arrested and prosecuted?

The day before Thanksgiving they decide to strike because of outsourcing and labor disputes. What would you say if it were your baggage?

No.

The United Nations Convention on Human Rights says "Everyone has the right to form and to join trade unions for the protection of his interests" and "Everyone has the right to work, to free choice of employment, to just and favourable conditions of work and to protection against unemployment".

If an employer refuses to provide said "just and favourable conditions of work" by cutting wages, or outsourcing to cheap labour, then workers may take action to protect those rights. This includes going on strike.

Whilst I would be incredibly annoyed if it were my baggage that was being delayed, I would also accept that other people have to make a living and stand up for their rights.

So your baggage got delayed. Inconvenient, but less inconvenient than losing your job. There are two or more sides to every story and the person who suggested that the handlers are "greedy selfish" bastards might care to reconsider her position when her job goes down the tube for no good reason.

Go to Detroit and get a flight there, i wont waste my time with striking baggers.

Um, are living in the same democracy as me? Workers have rights here. I think arresting them is a clear violation of rights.

People complain about high prices of tickets so airlines lower wages so they can still stay in business. Workers strike because of low wages and people complain again. Its a lose-lose situation for airlines.

Splendid
They can't be arrested because they didn't break any law. However, I'd pass my waiting time kicking butts until the temporary baggage workers arrived and cross the picket line.

I'd say "Ah, crap" and be prepared to buy a couple days stuff when I arrive at my destination. (greedy, selfish bastards)

Ice Trojan, you are my new hero!! You hit the nail on the head.
But.......it doesn't affect too many people? NWA is the 5th largest carrier in the world.

To the asker: It is a worker's right to strike, except policemen and the like. Ever hear of the Railway Labor Act?

By the way the baggage handlers do a LOT more than just fling your bags around. They have some pretty serious responsibilities. They guide the aircraft in and out of the gates (since the mechanic workforce was replaced by scabs, and they are too stupid to do this, it became the ramp's job) They also deice the aircraft in the winter months.

Are you talking all of MSP, or just the NWA workers?

Maybe NWA shouldn't have eliminated all the company jobs from the airports that aren't their 40 largest. That could've had something to do with it.

Sorry if you live in MSP or fly NWA... but this really doesn't affect too many people.
