Should a pilot make sure that the plane is flying smoothly when the passengers are having their meals ?

Do you think the aircraft is flown through turbulance on purpose just to spite people having their dinner?

They do their best. Can't avoid bad weather and turbulance though

I think this is always the pilots goal regardless of meals being served or not. Sometimes there's turbulence and there isn't anything they can do about it.

Caribbean1
This is actually not a very intelligent question at all. I work for an airline. The pilots try to make sure the plane is flying smoothly at all times. Turbulence is not something that is controlled by the pilot.

Alias
NO, they should always be flying as smooth as they can. But you can't control weather.

ethansma24
Like everyone else has said, turbulence as a whole can't be completely avoided. There is weather all over the place, and even things such as flying over mountains can increase the chances of turbulence. They always do their best to avoid as much turbulence as possible. If they are experiencing bad turbulence, they will request a different altitude to try to find a smoother ride....but that can't always be done right away because there are other planes in the sky.

I really don't think that is the kind of thing they have a say over, unless storm from x-men decided to pick up a day job. The choppyness in a flight comes from turbulence aka wind so they don't have much control over it any more than you do.

There isn't any way for the pilot to make sure that the plane is flying smoothly, since he has no control over the atmosphere or the weather.

Asking this question is a bit like asking if a bus driver can smooth out the curves in the highway so that the bus always moves in a straight line.

KhK
Passengers must be fed at any stage except during great turbulences where all equipments and pantries must remain secured and crew remain seated.

rocky
hey this is extremely important on the side of the pilot to maintain order so that the passengers can eat their meals in peace and harmony.
but in the rare exception of turbulance or bad wheather it can be accepted as he is the one to make our travel comfortable so that can be accepted.....

ღFëëZaღ
I thought their job was to try and fly as smoothly as they can all the time regardless if passengers are eating or not. Not a lot they can do when there are air pockets in the way i guess. :o)

their job is to have a smooth and safe flight.

the pilot should try and make sure the plane is flying smoothly all the time.

but, it's not always possible to predict or control when they'll face rough air.

They always do their best.
Although sometimes it's inevitable to hit bad weather and turbulence, so they just have to try to avoid it as best they can.
It's not exactly a responsibility, only because if turbulence hits, it can't be stopped.

before on board service begin the flight attendants actually asks for permission.. :D so they are doing their best but it's not always that smooth :P

castedlady
Of course! but they can't control weather and other conditions, and sometimes cannot try to find a smoother altitude.

La_rose_noire
Apparently its not standard procedure because they always choose to bring out the food 10 mins from a zone of turbulence.
