Should a tax be introduced on airline passengers over 25 stone?

Its like paying for excess baggage...

I dont think that a tax can be introduced, as that would be discrimination (and we all know how much trouble that will cause), mostly because some people could be overweight for medical reasons and obesity although self inflicted is a difficult thing to overcome.

In an idealistic world I would say yes pay up but then the airlines would just be making more money, they should reduce the price for skinny people - the concern then is a world of anorexic people flying all over the place! :-)

To sum up: They should be forced to take a large seat (how unfair would it be having to share your seat with a large person) which would mean moving to business or first class costing more!

livsgrandma
Governments have the authority to impose taxes, which are paid to governments. Airlines are not governments. They have no authority to impose a tax, nor does the government have the authority to impose a tax on behalf of the airlines.

only if they make the bloody seats bigger.

Linda84
Wow maybe in America, the airlines would make a fortune.

georgewarren93
NO that is discrimination and very rude, people are so hateful and noncaring now a days though

For christ sakes aren't there enough taxes around at the moment.

seventy
yes, I think passengers plus luggage. Recently I was charged for 5k overweight. I weigh 8 st. A passenger checking in behind me looked about 26 st and because her luggage was within the limit, she didn't pay any excess!! How can that be fair?

As long as they charge a tax for ignoramuses like you first I am sure fat people will pay taxes too, your such an idiotic numb skull and have absolutely no idea of life have you.

As per usual fat people like myself are treated like child molesters while waste of space drug users are oooh sympathy boo hoo.

Dopy drugged up fuckwits, locke em in a cell and force them to go cold turkey, (while i watch and eat the cold turkey.... LOLOL)

I laugh at all you miserable nut eating losers.

stanthemansmum
Lets also tax the very tall, men who can't sit with their legs together, taking my leg room as well, families with kids - they aren't free, we pay more for their free space, women with slag tag tattoos who insist on showing them off whenever possible etc etc etc.

The world is full of people with different shapes and needs. Get over yourself. I suspect you are a small stick insect - wait until middle aged spread hits!

Steshha
No. That would be mean.

Andre
I think you should tax them at 18st. Fat b@*tard$! If they have money for food, they can pay an extra tax. greedy little pork pies on legs.

If you weigh 5 stone and have no luggage you can pay the same for your ticket as someone of 25 stone with loads of luggage and duty-frees. It's crazy !

It could be a good idea as this might sper people to losse weight or it can be bad and put people off flying all together.

If they are obviously huge they should have to pay for 2 seats (I'm sure I saw on the TV some airlines alredy do this). it's very unpleasant to have a really obese person spilling into your seat on a long flight.

Grubbi
Uh, you have a point, but can you imagine the blubber jiggling around at the protests? ew.

Dickie
fat twats, make them walk

jonny be good
No they should be banned.

1. in the case of an emergency they can not be moved by the average member of society, causing a fire hazard.

2. unless they are seated in a special area they impinge on other passengers personal space

3. the fuel required to for the flight will be increased

4. people of that size are more likely to suffer in flight complications such as DVT, so its safer for themselves not to go.

5. By not catering for these people it sends a statement out to society as a whole that being morbidly obese is not ok, and that they should do something about it.

I've been stuck on a flight next to somebody who needed a seat belt extension for 4 hrs, to say I was uncomfortable is an understatement as he literally oozed over the arm rest to the point that it was completely covered. Trying to go to the toilet was nigh on impossible as he couldn't get out into the isle without help, yet it was me who had to apologise (and no doubt pay through higher taxes etc) for his years of abuse
