As long as you are supporting yourself financially and I am not, go whenever you please although I suspect BEFORE would be best otherwise you will be saddled with student debts and then not get the chance. |

Travel. Go with VSO, YWAM or World Vision. See how other people live. Get your hands dirty doing the important stuff. When you get back university will be in perspective. |

I went to uni first, go myself two degrees and then came to the u.k. It means that I can work and travel (in a little luxury and not in crappy hostels with a huge pack on my back) |

Uni first. You can use your degree to get work while you are away. You could do a TEFL course after you qualify and teach English abroad. |

go to uni first as you will grow up much faster going travelling and the 18 year olds at uni will still be childish when you get to uni
so trust me and go to uni travel later you will appreciate it more
and you will appriciate uni more if you go now |

take a year off AFTER your university studies to travel. then, you know that you'll be easily able to find a job when you come back. |

If you have a vision for what you want to do careerwise, and know exactly how uni fits into that, I would say go ahead and go to uni. You can travel at any age! And if you find any job you want to do on your travels, then you will be more qualified (more salary etc.) However, if you are really not sure what you want to do, I think it is good to take a year off, travel/work/whatever. But during that year make sure to keep open to finding out what different options are available for study and improving your qualifications. I don't know what your interests are, but don't only look at uni - sometimes more practical courses fit in better with what you want to do with your life. The main thing is, try to find out what will lead to a job that you will enjoy doing.
Hope this helps. |

Go travelling~you might well discover something that will influence what and where you study at university.
Besides, once you are on the treadmill it can be very hard to get off. |

Hey James,
I guess its really up to you but here is my advice;
I graduated from uni two years ago and am now working in Japan. Im glad that I waited until after uni to travel beacuse I used my uni experiences to cope with and appreciate traveling more.
uni will open your mind and be a lot of fun itself so it wouldnt be too bad an idea to wait to travel. However, unless you`re super
sensible you`ll never save up to travel when in uni - so be prepared to work for at least a year after you finish to fund it! |
