Should obese people pay more for air tickets? |
I have been told that my limit for baggage is 15kg (33 pound) due to the cost of the extra fuel - but if someone is really obese they get the same amount of baggage as me but weigh like more than 100kg more than me so they must be using a lot more fuel. Why should I pay more? Additional Details Jake - good point but as my brain is light - shouldn't I get a bigger baggage allowence |

I totally agree with you. In my opinion air fares should be calculated by the total weight of you and your baggage. So if you weighed 70kg and had 130kg of baggage then you would pay the same as someone who weighed 170kg and had 30kg of baggage. Maybe i should patent this idea??? |

I was under the impression that if a passenger cannot fit into one seat they have to pay to two seats. I believe I saw this on the news. |

they do pay more...if they have to occupy more than one seat, they get charged for more than one seat... |

Find a really good Hollywood special effects guy, and get him to make you a fat suit with loads of compartments for your stuff in it. Stick your luggage in that and pretend you're fat - problem solved. |

the same reason that people with small feet pay the same for shoes as people with big feet
it's the way it is |

Logically, people should pay for tickets based on their weight, or their size, or both (plus the weight and size of their luggage), because that's what matters from the standpoint of operating cost for the airline. Way back in the old days, every passenger was weighed before boarding, but the FAA finally decided to just come up with an "average" weight and multiply that by the number of passengers. Usually it is close to correct, if the passenger mix is completely random.
Today political correctness dictates that everyone be treated identically, even if it is unfair to some people and has a negative impact on economy and safety. |

OMG i have had exactly the same thoughts as you. Im 15 and i get so annoyed that with some companies im classes as an adult - it shouldnt be judged on age becoz i probably weigh at lot less as a 15 yr old than many older adults.
We shouldnt have to pay more for having 5kg extra luggage, when a person on the other side of the plane is paying the same amount to be on the flight, however weighs 50kg more than me.
Is this opinion classed as discrimation? But hey i couldnt agree more with what your saying LETS MAKE A PETITION!! |

They do in fact have to pay for being obese. An obese individual has to purchase an extra seat if they are too large. So they actually get double the baggage allowed. So if they bring the normal amount of luggage for one person and they are occupying 2 seats... they make up the weight. |

NO... why don't we instead, go after the greedy CEO's, politicians, identity thieves who continue to drive the cost of everything up. You must be crazy to be racking your brain over thinking that charging fat people more money to ride will help a darn thing. We need to get to the real heart of the existing problems instead of creating new ones.
Sorry but this is a retarded proposal, and I'm not even a fat person. Why don't you blame the right cause and concentrate on fixing that. |

Should you pay less for a song on itunes that is less than one minute?
Well, of course you should. But a song could be 48 seconds or it could be a 14 minute Opeth song, they are both 99 cents. The reality is a song is a song. And yet, they are priced equally.
[Individuals not considered obesed paying less than those who are obese] `In case my relation to a song confused anyone.
My point is, no it isn't fair. You shouldn't have to pay more. The prices should all be equal, regardless of how much you weigh. |

Back in the early days of commercial aviation, passengers were charged based on their weight and the weight of their baggage. "Persons of size" who can't occupy a single seat are (sometimes) made to purchase 2 seats. I have frequently seen people that barely fit in a seat who, in my opinion, should have been made to purchase 2 seats but were allowed to get away with occupying just one. It's basically a judgment call that has to be made by airport personnel. Once a person is allowed to board it's pretty much a done deal. |

No, they should be made to walk.
Seriously it is dangerous for them to fly, they can also unbalance the aircraft, if they are not evenly spread.
Flying is a luxury, and a scurge to the environment. Anything with discourages people from doing it is a good thing. |

no, kids pay the same fare, why do they have to pay more. what do you want it to be, pay by the kilo? what about people that take less luggage than you? anyway, its not just because of the extra fuel its SPACE ok, obese people may take up more space but they have to stuff themselves in their seat so really they dont take up more space. if they want more space they pay for it, just like you. |
|

Father Jake

Actually...you should pay double because your brain doesn't weight sh*t. |

Absolutely. Why do they care so much about a bag being 1kg over the limit when you get rhino's going into the cabin. |
