I'm a pilot and I fly for the local sheriffs office. I can't think of a good reason for anyone being armed in an aircraft. I would prefer that deputies that fly with me stow their weapons, but few do. |

Conventional firearms which fire bullets, perhaps not the best idea as they have a slight tendency to put holes in the plane and make it depressurise, which apparently isn't a particularly good thing to happen.
But TAZER guns.......... possibly. |

Personally I say no. I say the fewer weapons on a plane the better. After 9-11 it is very difficult to bring anything on a plane that can be used as hi jacking. Besides if 5 men jump up and try to hi jack a plane now a 100 men would attack them. Put a secure door to prevent anyone from being able to get to the pilots so they can get the plane on the ground as soon as possible in case of emergency. Once the plane is on the ground there is very little a hi jacker can do. |

Yes, provided they go through the proper training and background checks which I assume they of course would. It is unlikely anyone would try and storm into the cockpit considering the doors are locked and reinforced (at least on US airlines) but it can't hurt. It's unfortunate and sad that civilian pilots would have to need firearms to be safe - and their job description shouldn't have to include law enforcement, it should be flying planes safely - but I believe they should be allowed to have them. And as someone said, maybe conventional firearms aren't what is needed but something like a Taser or stun gun would be better. |

good question.... i would say no, only because the avation people cant keep track of the people that are supposed to be keeping PEOPLE from boarding or working they in line so how are they going to check pilots |
