I have the same problem - and I usually only take much shorter flights. I read, play my iPod, chew gum. I'm a vefry nervous flyer, and I've had to take ativan to be able to even get on a plane, which I think helps with the smoking thing - calms me down anyhow. I also cram in as many cigarettes as close to departure time as I can, and make a bee-line for outdoors upon arrival. Best of luck to you. |

although I no longer smoke, I did fly from London to Australia a few years back when I was a smoker, I tried to sleep as much as possible ... hope you have a great holiday ... ... ... . |

I do 11 hour flights, and all i do is sleep.... you can actually sleep those 7 hours by not sleeping the day before... And if you find it hard to sleep, drink lots and lots and lots and lots of water, you won't have cravings:) |

I use nicotine gum..it helps somewhat. Doing something that keeps you distracted is good...crossword puzzles, for instance. Drink plenty of water and remember to breathe!!! Smokers tend to breathe shallowly...take deep breaths...it helps! |

I have to say that I'm not too bothered about long haul flights despite craving a cigarette as soon as I land.
I try to keep myself occupied as much as possible though, read a magazine, watch an in-flight movie, eat (Peanuts are good) or sleep (especially if the flight is at night).
Try not to worry about it. It'll be over in no time. Get a window seat and enjoy the view. (and your holiday) |

It's a 7 hour flight so the best thing that you could do is sleep. What time is the flight? If it's in the morning don't sleep the night before if it's at night time then you should be tired anyways. You could bring things to occupy yourself like a book to read or crossword puzzles. Bring gum and candies. 7 hours isn't that long it's long enough for you to sleep it could be worse it could be a 20 hour flight. |

Just try not to dwell on it the more you think about it the more you want one.
Suggestions:
stay up so when you get on the plain you will want to sleep. Just get on the plain and eat something listen to some music or watch a movie and just relax and fall asleep. Good Luck and bring your inhalers and gum for back up. Casey:) |

read, watch a movie, i mean just the idea of knowing you cannot smoke helps me. gum works, get some inexpensive patches for the flight, play video games, etc. there are a lot of things that will help. good luck. |

You can think about it all you like, and you probably will. The main thing is your just not allowed. So even if your cravings got the better of you it doesn't matter. Avoid alcohol cos that will make you want one. |

i am a smoker and i was worried about that when i went to the states and to be honest it was not as bad as i thought, i did not really think about it , i suppose because i knew i could not smoke i was ok , but when i got to orlando i was the first one outside having a smoke along with quite a few of us, you will be fine, i was .and i did not need any patches etc, you will be surprised how quickly the flight will go. |

Sleep, or talk to someone else. It's going to be hard, because once you're on the plane, you CANNOT smoke. Good luck with the flight. |

Back in my smoking days the only thing that made me not want to smoke for a long time was eating a raw onion. |

My mother, last year went on a trip with her friend to Poland via London and my mother said that her friend is a heavy smoker and the only way she was able to cope was to take two sleeping tablets for the whole journey there and the FAs asked if anythings wrong with her and my mum would just say "she's asleep" when her head is leaning forward ;) |

You will be fine with what you are already bringing. I flew from Chicago to Amsterdam with no problems. There are smoking lounges there. Anyway, on KLM, they fill you full of food and drinks to keep you busy. Tell yourself you will certainly live without the smokes for 7 hours. Don't even think about it cause there is nothing you can do about it. Setting off the smoke alarm in the bathroom would be extremely unwise. So have fun on your trip and enjoy the flight ! |

To be honest there is no real way of keeping your mind off it because the more your try NOT to think about smoking, the MORE you think about
The fact is you will be counting down the minutes untill you can get off that flight and have a ciggie!!
Try taking plenty of mags, watching a film, sleeping, doing a crossword puzzle and most importantly, take lots of chewy sweets!! |

I used gum, alcohol, and sleep. |

Have you thought about trying the nicotine patch? This will avert your nicotine cravings which is why we crave a cigarette. Also sweets to suck maybe a pencil to hold so you still have the same feelings.
There is also nicotine gum which you could chew but I have been told this tastes really horrid, |

Take a quick release tablet of Melatonin after you've finished driving to the airport before you board the plane, it's the chemical used by your body to put you to sleep at night, so it's very effective and if you look at my source it's also not bad for you all around.
I've used it, you wake up as per usual. And it'll be just in time for that post plane smoke. |

I too am a smoker, and though I can survive a long smokeless flight, I found it was much more easier when using visualization techniques such as the "crash landing" : I see myself, amidst the flames, the chaos and the tumult, on the floor on all fours, trying to find the nearest exit while engulfed in a very toxic, thick smoke and, finally succeeding, dropping 50 feet in the charred sea below.
Of course this technique isn't for everybody, but I personally find it very satisfying, as if I had smoked and drunk during the entire flight.

There is really nothing you can do. Rules are rules...and don't try to smoke in the bathroom...alarms WILL go off (my father has done it). Besides all the things you have mentioned the only thing I can suggest is to take something like a Tylenol PM and sleep thru most of the flight.
Enjoy your holiday! |

Do you like yourself? If yes, why do you smoke? How old are you? If you are an adult it's strange you didn't quit to smoke... after everything you know about it. It's a shame people smoke. Take that idea of your head. Do other thing...eat a sandwich, an apple instead; drink a coffee or a tea; read a book ...; speak with someone on the plain...; sleep...; relax... Just choose to do other thing, simple as that. |

I would be fine if EVERY smoker would find a way to break the window and jump out of the plane. I cannot STAND their arrogant rudeness in public places, nothing but nicotine addicts, extremely sick people. On my last flight I had the misfortune of sitting next to this 50-something teenager who coughed the whole time while reeking of cigarettes..duh! Such riffraff should not be allowed to fly! |
