ok, first of all since this guy sounds really disgusting you can request to change your seat ONLY if theres an extra seat because otherwise they really cant help you out.

Next time you go on a plane bring some minty gum it will help if someone next to you smells really bad and i dont mean give it to them i mean chew it for yourself the icey coolness will go through your nose and it will ease up things for you

Yes, once everyone is seated and the captain has given the okay, I would go to a fly attendant and discreetly explain the situation and ask if there is another available seat. The one thing is though, typically you cannot change your seating class, so you wouldn't be upgraded due to being suck by a smelly guy... Hope this helps. Good luck! Oh, if it is a full plane, then you are pretty much out of luck... I've had a similar experience and you just can't wait to get off the plane! I feel for you.

unfortunately air travel has gotten crowded and at times uncomfortable. remember, this is public transportation. no need to make everything so dramatic and start calling out on people.

simply go up to a flight attendant and let them know about the problem and ask nicely if there is another open seat on-board that you can take. any flight attendant can and will do that if there is an open seat...we've seen too many situations like this--people with too much perfume/cologne, bad breath, odor, sick/sneezy passengers, screaming babies, obese passengers and we all know none of us would like to be stuck next to them and if we can make you more comfortable if we have the resources, we can and we will.

Yes, but it would be an awkward moment. This is one of those moments when a white lie might help. "Hey, I need some more legroom, so I'm going to move to that seat".....or something like that

I dont know what kimchee is or smells like but from how you describe it, it smells horrible. Im sorry that you had to sit next to him. Im curious was there anyone else on the other side of him? And yes you can always aks to see if you can move to another seat, you probably wouldnt even half to give your excuse. Geeze there was a time all you had to worry about when sitting next to a stranger on a airplane was that there were really talkative and annoying, but thats nothing compared to this sounds like. Well hopefully the next time you fly you wont half to deal with something like this.

How unfortunate! If you can move then definitely move. But if it's a full flight what I would do is walk to the back and explain the situation to the flight attendant. Maybe she can make all the Asians sit together then and allow you to have their seat.
