Co logo's reflect the owners cool. When the St Louis Rams got a new owner they made the colors blue and gold vrs blue and white, as an example. |

Because their airline is based out of Dallas (Love Field),
so they use a heart in their logo. That's the story I got from
my pilot hubby. They have different colored planes just for fun. |

Sorry I don't have any answers about the logo.. but I would like to respond by asking the people above, that if Southwest planes are so bad, then how come they've never had a crash in their 36yrs of service? They've had one fatality... and that's when one slid off an iced runway in chicago I believe.. right into a freeway.. killing a little boy in a car. I don't know about anyone else, but I prefer to fly with an airline with wonderful statistics. |

IM4REAL is WRONG
Southwest buy their aircraft brand new from Boeing.
Their early model 737's have been retired from service
However they are a low cost airline so don't expect any frills.

You know how that airline saves enough money to be able to keep the tickets at a low cost?
They have the oldest fleet of aircraft of any airline...They buy the ones that other airlines sell as other airlines replace their fleet of aircraft.
Continental has the newest fleet of aircraft of any other airline, which makes Continental the best airline there is...and the safest...
Save a few bucks if you will...but I prefer modern day aircraft...with all the latest wind-shear detection equipment and the newest parts, and wing tip extensions...and the best service around... |

See website below and read 3rd paragraph. They like to honor certain events and enjoy using unique designs on their aircraft. it gets attention and is good advertising too. |

I've heard that Southwest Airlines, buys used aircraft from other airlines somehow. They are a cheaper airline, that doesn't have the professional business like other airlines. |

The heart comes from their stock symbol which is LUV, which they selected because they used to have their major hub out of Love Field in Texas when they were a much smaller regional airline. They are still LUV on the stock exchange. As for the colors, airlines change their colors (also called their livery) pretty regularly as new planes are added to the fleet or to mark special occasions or relationships. For example, USAir has some planes painted with the Phoenix Cardinals' logo because, when they merged with America West, they moved their HQ to Phoenix. So the patterns change and are updated pretty regularly for all airlines but only the new planes and those already going in for a scheduled facelift get the new paintjob. If you visit an airport that is a big USAir hub, you will see many different USAir paintjobs; American's livery has changed very little over the years; some airlines mix it up a little more than others do. |
