Drinking lots of water may help, but I hope you have an aisle seat otherwise the person next to you get really annoyed with all those trips to the bathroom.
The only problem you are going to have is jet-lag. That is one of the benefits of sleeping going east, you can help fool your body into the new time zone.
If you have a PSP or similar game device that can help pass the hours.
Get up and walk around every hour, just remember that most of the people will be sleeping so be quiet. |

If you want to stay awake then drink plenty of tea/coffee as this contains caffeine.
However, being able to sleep on an aircraft in coach class is an asset which in envied by many. The cabin crew will probably make you put the blinds down (you can refuse this though) which makes the flight even more boring.
Also, being on an overnight flight to London will mean it is in your best interests to get some sleep if you can. I recently flew on a 13 hour overnight flight leaving Hong Kong at 1am arriving at Heathrow 6am and this was really boring - despite sitting in the emergency exit row, I still couldn't sleep and this flight felt like an eternity. |

Hi,
Sorry to hear you have a flight at 2 AM. If you want to stay awake, dont turn to energy drinks or caffeine! They give you a short amount of energy, and then drain your energy after. To stay awake, listen to the captain's/flight attendant's messages. Some other things you can do are:
-Play Games (Portable Game)
-Listen to heavy metal (to make you stay awake)
-Read a magazine
-Watch the airplane move on the screen (not recommended, may make you fall asleep)
-Talk to the flight attendants
-Observe other people.
Enjoy your flight :)
By the way, Walk around every 1hr or 30 minutes to avoid blood clots in your legs and to keep you awake. |

The usual stuff. Caffeinated drinks, chocolate, etc.
My favorite is a really good book that I just can't put down. |

take a short nap - i do for about 20 minutes. if you think you'll sleep too long, ask some one on the plane to wake you up. im sure most people will agree to your request. |

okay i had to do something similar to catch a flight. alright tonight stay up as late as you can. Tommorow morning is when you can sleep. You can wake up around 8:00 tommorow night. That way you get all the sleep you need and you dont have to sleep on the plane. GOOD LUCK |

DONT drink caffeine and energy drinks. They give you a quick burst of energy and then make you sleepy.
I fly for a living but I also use my concessions a lot and travel on long haul flights about 10 times a year. I find the best way to stay awake is to drink loads and loads of water as it rehydrates your body and stops you feeling sluggish. Avoid heavy meals as they leave you feeling stodged. Eat small snacks at regualr intervals, fruit, nuts etc. Avoid Dairy products aswell.
Watch movies, listen to music or read. Try to do something that will keep you relaxed but not sleepy.
Beat advice though, drink as much water as you can. There is less oxygen at 37000ft and it makes you tired easier so water will keep you alert.
Enjoy your flight. |
