I'm not an avid traveler by any means, but because of my Indian background I have spent up to 16 hours on a single international trip from Canada to India on many occasions.

First, and probably the most obvious activity to do on a long plane ride is to sleep. If you think you may have some trouble going to sleep, trying taking some pills just before you doze off, such as SleepMD or Ambien.

If you enjoy reading, bring a book along. But if you're not a serious reader and only enjoy looking through some magazines, I'd highly recommend that you purchase these ahead of time. The prices of everything at airports are outrageously high.

For newer forms of entertainment, you may want to resort to music and movies. Most people have digital media players such as IPods, so I'm sure you've already thought of this. Don't rely on airline movies! For many airlines, there may only be a few screens throughout the cabin and your view may be hindered. On some airlines, you may have to pay to receive the special headphones need to hear the audio of the movie.

In my experience of flying, I've found that most passengers just want to relax, so don't plan on indulging yourself in much conversation with your neighbours. Of course, there's always a chance you'll sit next to that in-flight hottie, and if the stars are correctly aligned - you could be the newest member of the Mile High Club! (Haha, this last suggestion isn't for everyone...)

Anyways, I'm sure with all this, you'll have more than enough to keep yourself busy. Try to get yourself a window seat as this usually makes the trip more entertaining and enjoyable. I'd also suggest that you bring along some bottles of water and small snacks. Happy flying!

Perhaps the best advice I can give you: Ignore the travel map with the location of the airplane on the map. I made the mistake of falling to sleep to early on a long plane ride. After the in-flight movies ended I awoke only to have that map tauting me for the next 8 hours. Bring puzzles. They are interactive and the time flies. Enjoy your flight

Noise canceling head phones, iPod, a book, handheld electronic games like game boy. Bring some food if you are on there a while so you have something to snack on, not much offered on most airlines these days.

U can bring crossword puzzles, a book to read, some paper and pencils for drawing, um... sudoku. Ur Ipod, or MP3, or some kind of device u can take to listen to music, and also if u have one, maybe u can bring ur laptop.

A laptop and a bunch of dvd's! I travelled to germany last summer and that's all i did. or a portable dvd player, that works too. the laptop's battery dies after like the 2nd movie. i had both so it was good.

whenever i go on a plane ride i take my MP3 player and stuff 2 write and draw with also i would bring a snack like crakers or granola bars.

give peace a chance ♥
-headphones to plug into the seat to watch the movie they are playing
-a book
-crossword puzzles/wordsearch/sudoku (sp?)
-sketchbook and pencils
-magazines
-idunno if your allowed to use it on the plane, but a portable video game system like psp or nitendo DS
-a pillow and blanket to sleep. =]

I usually either take a nap, slip on my headphones, or read a book. And sometimes if the person next to me is friendly, I'll get into conversation with them for a while. Also if I know people on the flight, we ususally take a lot of random, funny pictures with each other.
