Definietely ask the airline(s) about bereavement rates.
For your father, see if you can get a bulkhead seat. These have a lot more legroom and sometimes get snapped up fast. The catch with some of the seats with more legroom is they may be emergency exit seats, and your father would need to be willing and able to assist in an emergency.
I found this site to be extremely helpful while booking a flight at 7 months pregnant: seatguru.com It gives the lowdown on how much room seats in different planes have. I found the cheapest rates when booking our flights were through the airlines, and we got to pick our exact seats on the planes. |

Be upfront with them and ask them if there is anything they can do to help you afford to fly the three of you there. |

Honey, just call em and they give you a break. All the airlines give it. So you should still shop around. AND FEEL FREE to ask your family and friends for frequent flyer trips. If they are like me they lose them if they don't use them so I frequently give my SW airline trips to friends. |

You are going to need proof of:
1)you and yours parents attended the funeral (letter from cemetery and/or funerral home)
2)copy of death certificate
3)proof of relationship of the deceased
But you need to call the airlines first. No one can tell you otherwise. Each one have their own rules. |

Call them and explain your situation. It doesn't hurt to ask... the worse they can say is that you have to pay the normal fair. |

i am sorry for your loss, but I think its better if you can contact your airline provider. |

Most airlines have grievance rates for this exact reason. |

I'm sorry for your loss. I don't know about Southwest but I know that airlines generally will give a discount if you can show proof of death of a family member. |

Just call them and tell them your situation. It's called a bereavement rate. Unfortunately, it's really not a great savings. |

Call them. Each airline has its own policies. I know the airline I fly for is quite understanding and lax about these sorts of issues, but again, each airlines policies vary greatly. Good luck. |
