Four hours is a long time to just be sitting so bring a book, mp3 player or portable DVD player and movies along. If you are prone to motion sickness bring along some Dramamine and take just before boarding. I don't know what your carrier will serve on board, but it might be a good idea to bring along a light snack/meal in case you don't like what they offer. Oh and some gum (in case you need to make your ears pop) or earplugs. Take off and descent are not scary at all, but turbulence can be scary for some. Remember this though you are more likely to be hit by a bus than have an emergency in the air |

Bring high protein granola or health bars. If you re flying an very large plane takeoff and landing aren't that bad. Turbulence doesn't happen very often so don't worry. If you get stressed out just relax. The next time you fly it wont be half as scary. Good luck! |

I'd suggest to not drink too much alcohol and drink plenty of water, and to take some chewing gum to help with your ears. Flying into Sydney once, I couldn't get my ears to pop and it was extremely painful. In spite of making chewing movements with my mouth, it didn't work - gum made all the difference. |

Four hours, yes you need some headphones and music because I guarantee that there will be a crying baby aboard. Bring some books, magazines, and read the magazine that they provide. Eating, you should probably bring nuts or a small bag of chips, but nothing that is smelly because it really does stink up the cabin and make the guy next to you really jealous. Ascending and descending is not scary at all because it goes up and down GRADUALLY. It's like a car going down a moderately tall bridge, exactly, gradual incline. Turbulance may and probably will be scary the first time. Personally, I've been flying a lot and I'm used to it. I love it so much that I LOVE turbulence. It feels like a car driving on the side of the interstate where the rough edges are. |

just take what you would if you were going on a car trip. but, check with your airline about the food you can bring on, some airlines only let you bring food that you've purchased while in the terminal. and yes, turbulance is a little scary, but what i do is just close my eyes and pretend i'm in car; it makes it seems like you're just driving on a bumpy road. lol.
the most dangerous part of an airplane trip is the ride to the airport. =] |
