I am an airline pilot for US Airways. I fly A LOT. I have never been involved in an air incident for my entire career. You will be fine.
All portable electronic devices must be stowed until proper altitude. Phones, RC cars, and radios are not permitted at anytime. But, on some international carriers, they have airphones. |

considering the tens of thousands of planes that fly everyday... i'd say on a scal of 1-10, it would be 0.00001 |

Not scary at all.
It would be a 0.00000001/10 Chance of it crashing. |

1 you have a bigger chance of being in a car wreck
it's not scary, it's like a free fall for a split second.. so yeah, your stomach goes into your chest and you get startled and wide eyes, but then everything goes back to normal.. no biggie. |

On a scale from 0 (impossible) to 10 (certain), the chances of dying in an airplane crash are approximately 0.0000004. |

You have a very very slim chance of crashing. And turbulence is kind of like riding in a car on a bumpy road. Just relax, bring a book and enjoy the ride. |

really really really small...like .00000000000001
turbulance is just kind of like a roller coaster ride...short bumps. You have to turn off your phone (no texting or calls) until you get to where you are going. That is how it is. You can definitely use your ipod there. The flight attendants will tell you to turn off your cell once you get on and they will tell you to keep it off (happened to me before) |

Your safety has a lot to do with the competence of the pilot. |

Your chances of being involved in an aircraft accident are about 1 in 11 million |

A very tiny fraction of 1. Relax, you'll be fine, you'll have fun.

The above website has some really good information about turbulence. It's about the same as driving down a bumpy gravel road. Just keep your seatbelt on whenever you're in your seat and everything will be A-okay. I was worried about turbulence before I took my first flight, but I went to the website and then whenever we encountered turbulence, I knew immediately what it was and wasn't afraid. Education is a powerful tool to help you overcome your fears. I definitely recommend checking out the website. :) |

Okay I used to feel the same way. I can't really give you an exact scale from 1-10 but I would say it would be like 3.
Remember that the pilot(s) have spent years and years of top of the arts education. So they are very thoroughly trained. And they are not just the ones navigating and operating the plane. There are hundreds of people in the control room watching and assisting.
When you compare that to some 16 (varies depending where you live) year-old kid who practised couple times driving with his dad, and he gets to drive a car! That is away more dangerous. Not to mention there is not nearly as much space driving cars as flying a plane.
As for Turbulence, if you have already talked yourself into it- it will be scary. I think that most people are aft raid of flying first time or not. So JUST DON"T THINK ABOUT IT. This will be hard but every time you think of a new "what if" scenario stop. Just stop there are SO many more dangerous things to worry about. |

2 out of 10 if even that? your safer on a plae and have less a chance of crashing than in a car. you have to have your cell shut off or on airplane mode the whole time well on the plane because the signals could mess with plane signals. you can turn it back on once you reached your destination and are gated. you can listen to you mp3 player once you've reached final altitude. you have to turn it back off though when your going down to your destination. i don't like turbulence. it's like when your driving in the car and go over a bump on the road it feels like that. i like it in the car though just not on a plane. |

You haven't a thing to worry about. I say the chances of a plane crashing are about 0.00009/10. Turbulance can be scary at first, but nothing too dramatic. |

You never know? It's unlikely it will crash. But, if you keep your cool you won't be so scared. Put the idea in your head that it is going to be fun and it will be. Just pretend you are on a bus or a carnival ride. Maybe have a drink or two before you board? lmao! |

It really is true that you have more chance of getting killed driving to the airport than you have flying.
Turbulence can be upsetting. Fly in a small plane and then nothing in a commercial airplane will bother you. |

I myself have never flown, but my girlfriend has flown more than some pilots. The chance is almost 0 percent. Airplanes are very refined sophisticated machines, and while there are reports of crashes in the news, the news always has those sorts of stories. Turbulance is scary, of course, but it usually never lasts even a minute and its just a simple wind change or something similarly minute. Don't sweat it, plane rides seem like they would be enjoyable, you get to see everything from birds-eye view.
