If you can, book a seat by the emergency exits. he has to be reasonably fit and sober though |

ry to get the seats at the front by the door, or else get the seats by the emergency exits.
Not always possible, especially with budget airlines where you don't reserve a seat, but it's worth a try. |

fly United some of their coaches offer some extra leg room or ask your travel agent |

I don't get this, how can you travel coach by air, coaches don't fly. Do you mean coach and air? If so, then get an aisle seat. |

Check http://www.seatguru.com -- will show legroom for many airlines and aircraft types.
Also, a slightly different approach to answering your question... what's the route? Reason I ask is because sometimes there are lesser-known airlines with more legroom, or very good value upgrades*, but it depends on the route. *(Spirit's "big front seat" and Airtran's business class upgrades for $45 per segment, or Midwest's "signature service" flights, for example). |

You could ask for a seat right in the front - there is always extra leg room in the first row of seats. |

Emergency exits are the way to go, and failing that, get him an aisle seat so he can stretch his legs into the aisle. |

Right behind the galley or exit row. You won't be able to put bags under the seat in front of you, but cramps and bag, or no bag and comfort? Give me comfort. |

Book early and select a bulkhead or emergency exit row seat. Or go first class. |
