As recently as five years ago there were still some places in which you could not take your phone, but today those bans have pretty much disappeared (unless you are heading to North Korea).

You'll need to turn it off on the flight, of course.

I would suggest, however, checking a) who is your phone provider and what system they use, and b) whether your phone is locked or unlocked (most phones in the US are locked).

If your phone is from a GSM carrier like T-Mobile or Cingular, than it will probably work in Europe and many other places (though you should call them to make sure). If it is Verizon, then there is a different procedure as they use a different technology.

If your phone is unlocked, you can buy a SIM card in the new country you are visiting (pay as you go) and have a local number in that country where people can reach you. This is really only necessary if you are going to be making a lot of calls in that country or receiving calls from that country (i.e. on a business trip).

Have a fun time

You can take your phone with you.

I just went from Japan to America to Japan and had my Japanese cell phone with me. Check with your provider to see if they have an international plan that will allow you to make phone calls while you are abroad.

Just dont use the phone on the plane and you will be fine.

Sure, take it with you. Might not work... if it does, might pay huge roaming fees... but go ahead!

Oh, it has to be off during flight...

you can take your cell phone with you, DO NOT turn it on in customs when coming back they will yell at you and it depends on what service you have you might not be able to use it in the country you are going to.

Cellphones are definitely allowed when you travel. Be sure that you shut it down when you are in the airplane. Be sure also that your phone is on international roaming and that your phone is tribond. Other phones cant be used internationally . Dont use it too often since the rate is really expensive. You get charge for both incoming and outgoing phone calls.
If you are from the Philippines, if your line is SMART then it is advisable that you go to the SMART center at least 2 days before you leave. They usually ask a deposit of P2,500 which you can refund later when you turn off your international roaming. However, it can also be used as payment for your next bill as long as you dont excess your use. If you are on prepaid, then you can just do the roaming few hours prior to leaving. Just ask your network.
If you are from the US, as of last year, I know that Verizon cant be used for international roaming! T -mobile and Cingular has international connections! However, it would depend on your phone and your plan.

yes you can, i dont knwo why you wouldnt but you cant use it while on the aircraft so you wioll have to turn it off then. you might also not have any service to where you go so then your phone is useless.

Yes you can. I live in Australia and took my vodafone over to Singapore/Thailand with me and got coverage. It does cost more to call and accept calls as well. More for SMS as well.

Yes you can, but you can't use it or turn it on while flying.

raspberryswirrrl
yeah it is a dumb question hahaha - why wouldnt you be ALLOWED to take your cell phone??

also - while international coverage allows your phone to work in other countries with compatible systems, some countries use different systems and your phone will not work in these countries.
You need to check that your phone will work in the country you are going to, or there is no point in taking it with you.
