Most airlines will give you a huge discount if you tell them that there has been a death in the family. As far as I know, all the airlines do that.

LaLa
I just went to cheattickets.com and if you click on discount airfares it will list a lot of different discount airlines.

If you are just going from Dallas to New Orleans why don't you drive? I live in DFW and have driven to Louisiana several times. Even if you get a rental car and drive, it will still cost less than $400 (we always get a rental when we go).

I just checked out another site, Travelation.com, and I don't know what dates your flying or your son's age, but i entered leaving Dallas 10/21 returning 10/23 for 1 adult and 1 child (under 12) and it came up with $133.60 (267.20 + tax).

go to lastminutetravel.com, Site59.com something like that. There are several last minute ticket sites. I know that my sister tried to get bereavment fares like 5 years ago, for my nephews funeral, she was told that she had to have a copy of the death certificate, that did not even come for like six months. She ended up taking the bus, because it was way too much to fly her and her three kids.

Try American Airlines..they have offered fares as low as $264.00 on their website.
You will need to be flexible in your flight times.
If all else fails, call the Airline and ask if a bereavement fare is available.

Vosot
Try Orbitz. I flew from NC to Dallas last week round trip for $320.

i have flown with the bereavement fare a couple of times,i beleive that all the airlines will do this, they will want proof so most likely theyre gonna want to talk to the funeral home director or your priest, they'll tell you more when you talk to the airline, but its good to have that information already (phone #'s and names and such) my condolences to you and yours ive been to a lot of funerals and i know how difficult it can be.one more thing,it does have to be a family member it cant just be a friend, and of course your not required to show a death certificate how could you? but like i said they will want some proof

I don't know about under $400 but you can get a discounted rate I think it's called a bereavement rate (sp?) but I'm pretty sure you need like a copy of the death certificate or a funeral notice or something like that to show to the airline.

megs
Call the airline and tell them you need a bereavement fare.

Call all of the airlines and explain to them that you need to fly to attend a funeral. They have special bereavement rates for just such an occasion. All airlines have a special rate for a death in the family and you just have to call each one individually to find out who will give you the best rate right now.

No you don't need a copy of the death certificate.

Jenny K
I would just call all the airlines in your area and ask. Make sure you tell them it is for a funeral, there may be special deals on that.

mr danger
Airlines usually offer bereavement fares- which is the lowest priced ticket available. in order to qualify the deceased must be next of kin-I know for a fact that grandparents qualify - You must give them the name and phone number of the funeral director and that's about it.
You can rent a Taurus from Hertz at Love Field $ 35.00 per day
4 days = $140 .00
1100 miles roundr trip NO @ 25 mpg = 44 gallons of gas @ $2.50/ gal =$ 110.00 +140.00=$250.

zachs mom
I think if you show some sorta proof of a death they will reduce your fair.... call the airlines and ask about this .

Hah, Hah, not likely furnerals are so expanse but if you have insurance it want be so bad. I'm sure you know that the insurance most likely pays for everything. if you don't have insurance it will be best to get some, the best place to go is to John Hancock Insurance Company.com. Their pretty good.
