URGENT!! - How to stop ear popping on plane?!?

Hey everyone, I am flying From Sydney to Perth and then Perth to Esperance. I don't know if my ears are going to pop, my friend went to Bali last year and he said it was so painful he was crying (he's 13 btw)

When I go big hills my ears seem to bubble up and go all funny from the changes in pressure, so whats going to happen on the plane!?

So can someone please tell me IF my ears will pop and be painful??

And the best alternative way (My evil Mum won't buy me pressurized ear plugs) to stop my ears popping????

THANKS!
Additional Details
Thanks for all the answers everyone!! All great, I'm not at all worried now! I wish I could pick a best answer but their all so good, I think I'll put it to a vote so I'm not being biased.

You don't want to stop your ears from popping. Your ears will hurt a lot if they DON"T pop. Popping releases the pressure and that's what you want. All this gum chewing and yawning is to help your ears pop.
Normally you would only have trouble if you already have a cold. A simple over the counter decongestant that you take for stuffy nose will help clear the ear canals as well.

Brenntagee.
Get a boiled sweet or a chewing gum, or if just get EarPlanes.

it may be painful if its your first time but it will only sting a little. most times you can just chew gum, when you chew gum it causes you to produce saliva and then when you swallow it, it re-acts to your ears popping so...theres chewing gum, yawning when your taking off and lanthat's but thats about it. if it does hurt maybe you should have a Tylenol, advil or aleve so you can take it once it starts to hurt but good luck and have a good plane ride.

I've tried everything and nothing works. I suggest you find a way to buy those pressurized earplugs! By the way it only hurts(not all people) at liftoff and landing, and next time I travel and I can't find those pressurized earlpugs I'm going to take painkillers !

DON'T plug your nose & blow. That makes it worse and you can pop your eardrums.

It probably will make them pop, though.

Blame it on.
chew gum
yawn

I know how you feel. I have the same problems - especially when I sit in the back of the plane. My dad always tells me to pinch my nose, hold my breath and blow out until you pop your ears except I can't do it.

All I can tell you is to try that and if that doesn't work grab someones wrist and get ready for some ear popping.

Sorry I wasn't that much help!

yawn a lot or at least breath with your mouth wide open also make sure you are chewing gum or something it also helps

It doesn't hurt at all, just kind of feels weird. He was probably just trying make you all worried and freaked out. I suggest chewing gum. I do that, and pretty much EVERYONE does that, so get some gum and chew it :D
