Was this a near miss?

i was coming back from prague to dublin a few weeks ago we were about 20 -30 seconds from landing at dublin airport when the plane suddenly started to climb up at about 45 degrees we climbed for about 3 or 4 mins , the landing gear went up. after about 5 more mins the pilot said sorry about that but another plane pulled out into our path. i live about 5 mins from the airport and the flight path is over our house we had passed over my house so i know we were just about to land, was this a near miss i have tryed to find out but cannot find any thing

The rules regarding inflight near misses which have already been quoted do not apply if one of the aircraft is on the ground.

If the descending aircraft pulled up before crossing the perimeter then it is merely an aborted landing.

It could have been a plane on the ground taxid onto the runway, as opposed to a plane in the air, as it happened during landing.

It could be there was the possibility of a near miss, which is why the pilot was told to take avoiding action i.e. ATC told him to abort in order to avoid it.

With the amount of planes in the air nowadays its a wonder these things dont happen more often.

I think it is called a runway incursion. This is when an aircraft or vehicle gets in the way of an airplane landing or taking off.

A near miss occurs in the air when aircraft do not have enough separation and usually happens when one airplane is flying one direction and the other is coming right at it.

Sounds like a near hit to me.

Possibly not a near miss in any technical sense but certainly for the passengers an unsettling experience. This has happened to me on a couple of occasions and when I lived near the airport in Sydney it was not uncommon to see aircraft abort the landing and go around.

I would contact the airline & demand an explanation..dont let them just wipe it under the carpet as the next time they & the 300 odd passengers may not be so lucky.

In the US, all near-misses (1000 ft vertical, 3 miles horizontal separation, less at airports) are reported to the FAA. There is probably a similar reporting agency in Ireland.

The King
I think it is more like a near disaster.
