It was mine and my daughter's first plane ride last year (I was 29! my daughter was 4). I was so worried about her little ears popping and her being scared and goodness knows how many other things! She is also one of these children who just cannot sit still.
We sat her in the window seat so she could see everything outside, she was amazed! She also took a little bag on the plane with lots of goodies inside for her to play with, like her favourite Teddy (that she goes everywhere with), we bought some new colouring pencils and drawing paper and colouring books
In the end turned out we needed nothing as she slept for some of the way there and ALL the way back!!
Everything you have listed seems like good ideas, the only thing i would add if applicable is a comforter if your little boy has one :) |

BRING GUM for him or anything that you chew and swallow allot like beef jerky and such, as for keeping him accupied well maybe keep him up kate the night before so he sleeps threw most of the ride. but seems like your pretty well prepared. |

Don't forget head phones or ear phones for your eletronics. He won't be able to use them without. You may want to "practice" at home using them. |

It sounds like you are well prepared. Playing DVDs should be great. Maybe if he was tired he would sleep, but if he's a typical 4-year-old I wouldn't count on it!
Let him sit at the window (if you have a choice of seats) and he will be entertained, at least for a while, looking at the clouds and the cars below and everything! Hope you get on well |

OOOOO coloring!!!!! That always kept my attention for a long time, um you can try reading some books to him, the portable DVD player would work best for me lol. He might fall asleep though but its always best to be prepaired |

Some things you may want to do is take a book and read it to him. If possible give him the window seat and let him see the clouds that will surely take more than a hour. Also you may want to ask him to g oto sleep if he wants to. |

Okay , for things to do....
Coloring book and crayons.
Maybe bring a small bag of lego's.
But a gameboy and a pokemon game or something.
With children on planes you need to explain that they must be quiet.
Also , make sure tehy are constantly doing something.
FOr ears popping they say chewing gum. |

sounds like you pretty much got it covered, other than the sugarless gum to keep his ears from popping, keep plenty of snacks fruit roll-ups or crackers box juice, maybe a memory game you can play with him, a pillow from home, airplane pillows suck and some airlines make you buy them, and dont forget a blanket, dress him in very comfortable clothes, like sweats and a t shirt, and get him a small disposable camera, I know this sounds silly but he will enjoy taking pics of the clouds and of the airplane he will have a blast, and this does keep them occupied for a while, finger puppets or sticker books play cards, go fish, coloring books crayons buy something new and fun at the airport, book or stuffed toy this will hold their attention to for a while, or you can do what my friend does with her 4 year old, give him a benadryl before the flight, they sleep the whole time, I wouldn't do this but in her case she needs to, her son is uncontrollable |

Gum - make sure has gum to chew to help with his ears popping.
bring some little toy for him to play with and ask the airline if they have any special stuff for a kids. (sometimes they do, but don't get your hopes up).
Bring some little snacks just in case he doesn't like the food or gets hungry before food is served. |

Wow! Ok when I was four the year 2001, my family every year would go on a vacation to Disney World from New York to Florida. I usually loved looking out the window. So if you have a window seat ticket make sure your son sits there. While he's looking out the window tell himt hings like "Look at all the doll houses below." "Look theres Spiderman's house." Also for his ears and for your ears as well, chewing gum is the best solution. Have a nice flight! I hope I helped. ;) |

That's a good idea. Maybe a gameboy or something like that too? You can get gameboy advances cheap because they are old.
Sucking sweets and lollipops are a good one to help with ear popping, because at the back of your throat there are 2 tubes, each connecting to the inside of an ear. I usually use chewing gum but I don't think that would be too good for a 4 year old. Try to find sugar free ones though, because otherwise he might get hyper.
Maybe some top trump cards too? A colouring book and colouring crayons shoud be good as well. |

As for the issue with ears popping and that kind of thing. Buy a set or two of EarPlanes for Children, and one set for adults. EarPlanes are special filtered ear inserts that have a filter within them that prevent your ears from popping during a flight. They are usually good for a couple of takeoffs and landings. They won't stop your son from hearing, you can still hear fine. Buy one set for each leg of your trip, both coming and going.
They're pretty cheap. About $5 a pack. You can get them at any drugstore. And even at the Airport giftshop, but they would be more expensive there. |
