Wearing an underwire bra causes delays at airport security checks, is this true?

I'll be flying to London this coming December, i know how international airports get during the holiday season and the security check lines are often very long...so i heard that i should avoid wearing an underwire bra on the day becoz it might set off the metal detectors and i'd then have to be pulled out and checked, is this true? I'd hate to be the annoying lady in the line causing a delay but i also can't go without it! :-)

Generally no, it does not cause a problem. They have to set the metal detectors so that they alert to metal objects of a certain volume. Generally, it is much higher than the amount of wire in an under wire.

Some manufacturers are starting to use plastic for the underwire portion.

Mainly it depends on your size, and how new the equipment is at the airport. A 38DD is almost always going to be a problem, while a 32B will get by most of the time without a hastle.

My advice, unless you really, really, need to wear an underwire all the time, don't wear it at the airport. Another possibility would be to take it off before going through security, and put it back on once your on the other side.

I've worn an underwire bra through airport security and nothing has ever happened. I think you'll be fine.

No it should not cause an issue.

Just hold your arms out and tell them to enjoy the search. I have a cousin that says if the wire stops setting off the alarms she will start using old Budweiser horse shoes for support.

soccerknocker199
no, they are not that picky

NO, there would be millions of hold ups if that were true. I've flown very recently and this was not the case.

Jesus, "...I also can't go without it!".
Anyway, every woman with **** that sag under her navel, will be pulled out of the line as a "suspicious individual".

It depends on how good looking you are and if the person checking is a man.

Realistically I don't think the metal detectors are as sensitive as the used to be.
I used to get flagged for the pin in my elbow but it hasn't happened in a couple of years.
I don't think the pin got smaller, it has to be the metal detectors.
