What's the bathroom situation like on an airplane? |
I have a weird question........
Ok.....I am not a big fan of flying in general, but my boyfriend and I are going to Europe next week. The few times I have been on an airplane haven't been very long plane rides, so I've never use the airplane bathroom before. Unfortunately, I now have a kidney condition and I don't think I can go the whole 9 hours without visiting the facility. So.....anyone out there know what the airplane bathrooms are like? i'm not a germ phobe or anything....but is there just one bathroom for economy? and is it easy to get to? Sorry...I know this is a very strange question! I just need to know these kinds of things beforehand! :) |

If you're flying to Europe from the United States, chances are good that you'll be flying in a 757, maybe a 747. There will be more than one restroom for men and women- most likely one "set" up front, in the middle of the cabin, and at the end of the cabin, so there will be plenty available. This is due to the larger capacity of the planes, since it makes more sense to take as many people as you can at one time for long flights.
Generally, they are very clean and do have running water, soap, and paper towels, as well as toilet seat covers.
You will notice there will be "prime times" for bathroom use- whenever I travel overseas I try to go when everyone is asleep.
They are cramped, but not anything like a port-a-potty as far as smell and "disgusting" level. It is an experience when your plane hits turbulence, but more so for men (it's a lot more difficult to aim properly) than for women, since you've the luxury of sitting down for your busines.
Have a great trip! |

Airplane Bathrooms...
On all aircraft that fly transatlantic for passenger transportation purposes, there will always be a bathroom.
Most bathrooms are located at the back and front of economy class cabins ( on both sides of the aircraft ) , and at least one reserved for First Class and Business Class, so there shouldn't be a problem finding one to use on most flights (unless there are high passenger numbers)
They can be opened by usually pushing the the middle part of the door and sliding the door one way. Once the bathroom is closed, make sure you lock it, and more light will turn on.
There will be a toilet, and right squished to the corner will be a small sink with soap and all the usual appliances and a mirror, with a garbage can.
Usually the toilet cleanliness on a European or North American Airline is what some could say "second to none"
When flushing the toilet, make sure you are out of the bathroom, and close the door right away after flushing, as it is a vacum flush and can be quite noisy and scary. If you flush while inside the bathroom, sometimes the flush will pause for a few seconds.
Airplane bathrooms shouldn't be a problem using, just cover the seat with toilet paper and you will be fine!
When to use the bathrooms...
This is to consider on every flight with a movie screen at the front of the cabin. Go before the movie ends or otherwise everyone will rush to the bathroom, and waiting in a long line is a dreadful thing. Try waiting a bit after meals are served and drinks are served. Wait a bit after the fasten seatbelt light goes off, as there will usually be a line for people waiting to go after departure. Try going a while before landing as near the end of the flight before the fasten seatbelt light goes on, passengers will be trying to do their business before they have to sit down. |

They stink and they're tiny and cramped. If you ever have to take a dump on an airplane you'll regret it. Take a dump BEFORE you board the plane. Peeing is no problem. |

It gets scary because the plane is moveing and your walking down the Isle and but when you are in the bathroom.and try to use it it gets scary...you feel like you are rocking from side to side...But they have a handel that you can hold onto |

It's just a smaller version of the "port-a-pot" with a small hand bowl. Just hope you don't have air turbulance while you are in there. lol...sorry, I'm just kidding. It's not great but it serves the purpose. |

You can get to the bathrooms just fine.
Just remember you must be a yoga master to use the bathrooms.
They are small. I keep hitting my knees against the door.
I must say that they are very clean. |

THERE ARE 2 OR MORE BATHROOMS PER PLANE.
DEPENDING ON SIZE. 747 I BELEVE HAS 8 BATHOOMS |

There should be more than one bathroom for economy travellers and will not be difficult to get to. You may even be able to request a seat close to it when you check in. As others have stated, it is going to be small and cramped inside those lavatories but they are there and serve their purpose! |

First let the stewardess now of your condition so that if you have to use the bathroom you may find that others are in front of the line to also use the bath room. If you can't hold it..... they can help to place you in another bathroom.. Flights to Europe are usually the big airlines so you should not have any problems having access to a bathroom....and believe me....you be fine....the room space inside the bathrooms are often limited but you be just fine...... enjoy your flight. |

i just got back from an international trip and my flying time, one way, was 18 hours so i definately used the bathrooms, and i too am not a big fan of flying. On bigger planes there are usually six bathrooms at the front of the economy class and maybe at the back (i always sat in the front). the bathrooms are small and smelly, but you shouldn't be too concerned. just be sure to wipe the seat off and then put a nice layer of t.p. down before you sit. have fun in europe...don't worry too much about the flight! |

If you are flying to Europe you are most likely going to be on a large plane. Large planes generally have good bathrooms with alot of room. However if you fly on an express jet the bathrooms are incredibly small. You have no room to move around.
Most big jets have 2 bath rooms for economy and 1 or 2 in the front for first class. Smaller express jets have only 1 bathroom in the back of the plane. |

Most medium sized planes (Airbus 737, Airbus A319/320/321) have 2 bathrooms in economy. You'll most likely be on a larger plane going to Europe though and they have several - 6 or 8 in economy. Usually they're relatively clean and they have sinks to wash your hands, as well as hand sanitizer stuff. They're not hard to use or to get to, especially on a bigger plane which like I said you're probably gonna be on. Granted, it's easier for guys since we can pee standing... but you won't have any problems. |
