**This Is My Personal Opinion!**
Well it depends on your expectations. I fly Southwest majority of the time. Its not the greatest airline but for the price I can handle it. The only thing about Southwest is that it is open seating so you're seated according to the letter on your boarding pass. BUT there is preboarding seating which senior citizens, disabilities, and families with children 3 and under get on first. This gets tricky sometimes especially if you like to sit in the front of the plane, because usually your whole party can get on with you depending on the person working at the gate. and if you are going somewhere like Disney you can forget about it. the plane will be half full before they even get to boarding lane A. I've also flown American Airline several times and i loved it. I will fly them if I am going to the islands or on a long flight. Northwest Air uhm okay i have only flown them once and that was to Dulles. Stay away from Air Jamaica I have had repeated disappointment with them. hope this helps a little. |

The worst airline I flew was Aeroflot back in the USSR days. The domestic flights were horrendous. Since then, other airlines I've flown that basically sucked were: Orbi Air (Georgia): Armenian Air; Air Bosna; Albanian Air; and Marshland Air (Sudan). I think I took another bad African airline but can't remember the name. Egypt Air wasn't that great; nor was Air India.
Alitalia is probably the worst major airline in Europe. Air France can be good or bad (and Charles De Gaulle sucks for a major airport). I've had good luck on British Air and Lufthansa. Brussels Air lost my bag for almost three weeks when I flew to Kinshasa. I think it's all a crap shoot these days with European carriers -- they have better standards but on a bad day, they can be bad...
Emirates is a very nice airline, especially their long haul flights. Singapore Air, Cathay Pacific, Royal Thai are also quite good. |

A Brisitsh one called Monarch was the absolute worst. I think they are out of business now. I also have to say that I wasn't impressed by Lufthansa either or United.
Best ones are Singapore Airlines, Qantas, and British Airways. |

United Airlines is the worst. I fly almost 100 times a year, almost never on United - only 3 times over the past few years. Each of those three times, I've had major problems - all the airline's fault. I've never had any real problems on any other airline I've flown before (with the rare exception of a couple of 2-3 foot snowstorms in Boston - all of which were not the airline's fault). But anyway, here is why United is terrible.
-The last time I flew them, the toilet had overflowed and it smelled like poo throughout the entire cabin. Literally. And that was actually one of the least disgusting things I saw on that plane, as far as sanitation. There was also vomit in the seat pocket in front of me from someone who had been in that seat previously. I could go on and on with the unsanitary conditions....
- Each of the three times I flew United, my luggage went missing. Each of the times, I was told when I filed the missing baggage report that they had located my luggage, that it was just put on the next flight and would be delivered to me within 24 hours. Each time, it took 3-4 days. I had no idea where my luggage was, and when I tried to call the lost luggage customer service number, I couldn't get through to someone (a recorded message told me that "all agents are busy, please call back later" and I was disconnected - I couldn't even get put on hold).
-One time, I was flying from Burbank, CA to Boston, with a connection in San Francisco. When I checked in online for my flight, I was told BY UNITED AIRLINES to arrive at Burbank an hour before my flight if I was checking bags. So I arrived an hour and 45 minutes before my flight. I waited an hour and 25 minutes in line to check my luggage, despite telling them repeatedly that it was getting close to my flight time. By the time I got to the front of the line, I was told I'd missed my flight. It was United's fault because they told me to arrive an hour before, and also because it shouldn't take that long to wait in line. They had 2 check-in counters open and several more that were empty so they were obviously understaffed (their fault again). I was rudely told to wait in another line to get reticketed. I also know there were at least 2 other people who missed the same flight for the same reason as me. So I waited for almost 3 hours in line to get reticketed. Then I was rudely told the only way they could get me home was if I flew several hours later from LAX to San Francisco and take an overnight flight to Boston. I was also told that I would have to pay almost $100 for a shuttle to get from Burbank to LAX. Only when I got the person's name and threatened to file a complaint against her personally (which I did anyway) did she give me a voucher for the shuttle to LAX. I finally got home 14 hours late.
These are just some of the reasons why United Airlines is terrible. I fly American Airlines and USAirways most of the time, and have never had any problems with either airline. Or any other airline actually. I don't think it's coincidental that the only three times I've flown United the past few years I've had a lot of problems. |

Sunflower Airlines, a little regional commuter airline in Fiji. About once a week they'd have to ditch a plane into the Pacific! |

Airtran. The only plus is that it was cheap. It was like Southwest, but without the charm, funny flight attendants and the cleaning crew. My husband is 6'2" and was put in the aisle. The woman with the drink cart kept bumping into him and told him that if he would just "scrunch up" it would solve her problem.
The other one was Northwest Air. My college boyfriend and I were flying from Detroit to Orlando. They tried to give us a warm tuna sandwich. When we turned it down told us "that is all you are getting, and I am not coming back to you later when you are hungry." Luckily, another passenger heard her and was able to tell the manager when we reached Orlando. They offered us a food coupon to a food court restaurant! haha |

Allegro Air - It was an old 727, the seats were cracked and the whole plane reeked of the stench from the toilet.
China Northern - The plane was OK on its own, but the food was scary. Some chicken type thing wrapped in foil. I didn't evev touch it. |
