Directly with the airline. You can use a travel site or aggregate search site, but ALWAYS go back and check directly with the airlines themself. Whoever has the lowest fare on the site you use, go to that airlines site and check the fares.

Using a 3rd party site or agency is never 100% guaranteed travel. They charge booking fee's on top of the normal fares an airline would charge. A majority of the sites have fares that are so restricted you cant make any changes and if there is a problem, the airline cant touch them.

There is a common misconception that you will find airfare below the published fares. Words like cheap and discounted only refer to the bottom tier discounted fares the airlines have to offer. Its all a play on words. The best way to get the best price is to book atleast 30 days in advance or more and to watch the fare sales for the particular airlines you are interested in. The closer to departure time, the more the fare will be no matter who you book in through.

No matter what site you use, should you not choose to go with the airline directly, make sure you READ THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS or FARE RULES. If it states that it will take longer than 24 hrs to ticket or confirm your reservation, leave the site...its a scam. If the website does not do live or instant ticketing, you dont want it because then you are only submitting a request. They quote you the current fare at that time, but can charge you the available fare that is posted by the time they ticket or pay for your reservation. Sites in particular to stay away from are Cheapseats.com, Onetravel.com Mobissmo.com (because they use those sites) or anything with a booking engine that does not allow you to see what you are getting before you purchase it.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS go directly with the airlines website. If you need helping finding a fare, e-mail me the details..travel dates and city pairs and I'll help you find something with out being ripped off. Im not a travel agent or promoting my own website. I worked for an airline and I saw too many people get burned using travel sites that are traps for uneducated people.

I always go with the airline directly. Many airlines now guarantee that you will find the cheapest flights directly through their own website. Usually when I book a flight, which I do a lot, I check expedia.com or travelocity.com and see which airline is the cheapest. Then I go to the airline directly, pick the same flight, and more than 99% of the time, I get the same price or cheaper. And actually, most of those sites charge a "booking fee" of $5 or more, so it's better to book through the airline. Also it's safer to do that.... the "big three" booking sites are pretty safe (orbitz, expedia, travelocity) but some are kinda sketchy. I've heard horror stories.....

www.skyscanner.net.

This checks all the lowest flights from all airports in the UK. You can check which days are the cheapest to fly and which airline flys the route you want.
