You could do the return with her in a suitcase. |

I am a flight attendant and part of our training is learning the consequences of being unsafe. I have seen the FAA safety demos showing what happens when a child is held during a plane crash. It is not safe. As part of the airline community I can say that my friends with children bring a car seat. Also, look at how rambunctious two year olds are. It will be easier for you and the rest of the passengers if you just buy a seat. Would you hold your child in your lap while you were in the front seat of a car? Its the same thing. Have fun at Disney. Good Luck. |

airlines are pretty picky these days. They will actually ask to see a birth certificate. I know that was the case with my sister when this situation (not going on vacation but flying) happened to her. It may also depend on the airline. I would buy the ticket I guess because if it doesn't work out buying a ticket that day would be expensive! |

Hi,
If your baby turns two during your vacations, you'll have to pay for the seat, even if she's 1 during the first flight.
When you registrer at the counter, your airline will ask you for the passengers documents, and you'll have to give them your baby's passport or birth certificate, and if they see your baby will be turning two before the returning flight, they will tell you to pay the children's fee. |

Be honest, it is less complicated then lying and a better example for your kids. |

Im a gate agent and this happens quite a bit, the gate agent on the way there might notice the birthday or the gate agent on the way back. It really depends on how lucky you are with the gate agent. If they get caught they can get fined from the FAA though, So really they dont like to risk it. Im talking over $10,000 In fines. But you might be able to get away with it no problem. Its a 50/50 chance. Some gate agents ask for the birth certificate, and some just go by guess of age. Its all luck
So good luck |

I don't think you'll want to take a chance on this. You'r whole vacation will be on a dull note if you end up having to purchase a new seat at the last minute. Call a customer service agent with the airline you are flying with and run it by them. Ask if you can get it in writing if they say they will allow what you're trying for. Better to be safe than sorry.

It doesn't really have to do with safety (well, it does and I don't understand why you say you are aware that it is safer to put her in a seat but still don't do it, but that's for another day). It has to do with FAA regulations that mandate children over 2 have their own seats. Since the gate attendants and flight crews can rack up hefty fines if they're caught bending the rules or not checking, I would be reluctant to risk it. The best case scenario is you pay for another seat. The worst case is you pay for another seat, miss your flight anyway and have to rent a safety seat from the airline. |

As long as you aren't flying international you shouldn't have any problems. I would just do it, she was 2 years old at the time of booking, and she will be 2 when you fly, just not on the return which shouldn't matter a bit. |

i don't think there will be a problem with booking the trip as if she was 1 year old both ways. As long is she is not on the terrorist watch list. |

I think it would be fine. If anyone asks, you can just say that you already talked to someone about that and they said it was ok. |
