They are called flight attendants not stewardesses. Don't call them stewardesses because that means you are old and don't know that times have changed and flight attendants don't just serve drinks they save your life, so don't call them stewardesses.

Depending on what airline you fly, they're called flight attendants, air hostesses or stewardesses. However, most airlines have taken upon the politically correct term, flight attendant, as it is non-discriminative and is correct anyhow, because we now have both male and female flight crew. Some airlines, notably Singapore Airlines, have retained the old 'stewardess and steward' terms, which probably adds a bit of glamour and class to the job, which really only consists of greeting passengers, serving them food (only sometimes these days) and most importantly assisting them in the event of an emergency.

Appropriate terms are Fight Attendants, Cabin Crew or Fight Crew. Steward/Stewardess are no longer considered politically correct.

It's not just women that work flights, there are lots of men too.
