What are the odds of a flight being cancelled in a thunderstorm?

it won't be cancelled, the airplane does not conduct the electricity as it is not earthed, also they can get above them.

I hate storms and didn't know this until we landed but we were flying through the middle of a storm in a rickety plane on the way to Barbados, but I didn't notice anything.

It is not likely the flight would be canceled due to a thunderstorm. One thing with thunderstorms is they move fairly quickly, so if anything the flight may be delayed but not likely canceled.

any time I've had a flight scheduled and the weather is not so good, let alone, HORRIBLE, it gest wayyyyyyy delayed that they might as well have cancelled. can you get on a different flight, cause other wise, you'll be at the airport a very long time?

just about nil ,if the weather is really bad your flight may be delayed a bit.Don't worry about it

Thunder and Lightning storms do not pose any risk to your air plane or flight in terms of getting electrocuted so this side of the question is not to be worried about. An airline will cancel a flight due to a plane malfunction, too much turbulence or an excessivley high wind speed, problems with computer terminals concerning bookings, flight times, or flight orders; or for criminal investigation or warnings for the flight or terminal in question. Concerning the thunderstorm, if the winds are too high the most likely thing to happen is a flight delay until it is clear to take off under suitable enough wind conditions. The lighting itself should cause no problems.

In general a flight is unlikely to be cancelled due to an average thunderstorm.

The flight, if anything would be just delayed due to weather. If there is weather in the area, some ramp operations may cease for a little time to ensure the safety of the ramp crew. Hardly ever happens...I know, I work for the airlines. Usually these type of storms pass in no time at all.

Like phlflyers1 said, it all depends on how bad the storms are. You'll probably just experience a delay, but it's highly unlikely that the flight will be cancelled. Lightening causes more delays since they have to clear the ramp of people due to possible dangers.

pretty low. its still pretty safe to fly during a thunderstorm..

unless the storm is centered on top of the airport, or is unusually severe and windy, you will be fine- delayed at most. i've had to sit on a few runways to wait out a tstorm, but have NEVER had a flight cancelled.

Only really likely if the rain is torrential as it can make the runway dangerous for landing (and if your plane hasn't arrived, it won't be departing!!).
